Depends on whether u are better at cash or sngs. Also do not play 10nl with $100

5nl max if you go the cash route.

Test both out.

There must be a mode you prefere over the other.

Cash is harder to master (so maybe the correct route)

SnG's are very repetitive and can be boring, but are easier.

If you like deep stacked poker, then play cash, if you like playing 50< blinds approx on average then stick with SnG's.

Do not play anymore than 5nl with $100 and don't play any higher than $3.50 SnG's.

Play what your best at but if cash, do not play above 5NL. You are not bankrolled for 10nl and need at least $200, maybe even $300 if you want to give a shot at 10nl and be properly rolled.

In terms of what game you're rolled for...if you have enough of a life roll to re-deposit when you lose $100, you don't have to be as bank roll nitty as the rest of the thread...The bench marks everyone quotes are so that your risk of ruin is 5% or less as a winning player.

You're probably not a winning player yet, so bank roll mgmt doesn't apply. I would just play at whatever stake you find interesting AND can afford to lose your entire stake.

As for your question, if cash interests you, go with it 100%. It is a better way to make a living at poker and/or earn steady profits playing whenever you want. I prefer MTTs and SNGs because i like the extra meta game that the tournament structure provides, but somedays I wish I was a cash expert instead so I could get up from the pc when I got tired of playing and go outside.

Don't listen to anyone telling you not to play higher than $5 but understand why they are saying it.

Read up on bank roll management. A lot of people are super nitty about their bankrolls and want huge amounts of buy ins for any level they play. If you think along these lines then either deposit more or play lower. Its a personal preference designed to minimize risk. If you can handle the risk and don't mind redepositing play what ever stakes you want.

The straightforward approach is to start at the smallest stakes and move up when you have enough BR and enough game to to so.

In my case, I had to be extra careful with my initial deposit of $150 because I had decided never to take another cent out of my pocket. Otoh, if I'd had say another $850 budgeted and still in my pocket, I'd have been funded to start a few levels above the lowest, although I don't think that would have been very smart since I was a beginner.
