Hey guys, I'm new and all.. and I understand (or want to believe) the idea of variance.. but I'm really sucking it up. I simply cannot seem to win, I've lost my buyin nearly every time as of late. I started off decently, even managed to end up in the positive then for the past week it's been straight downhill. Things like this: [old link~tb] (I'm UTG+1)..

I'm using PT3 and it shows my biggest losing hand as QQ .. I've lost money from every single position except Pos 2.

I've read SSHE, Theory of Poker, etc. I feel like I'm applying the things I've learned but apparently I'm not. I've tried to find a study buddy but even that's to no avail.

:( Posting here is my call for help (or encouragement). With just about 1k hands (I know this is NOTHING) I've had fun, but I can't seem to get anywhere near the results I've been getting for months playing live at my local b/m.

Sorry for the downer/noob post. Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to help or give suggestions!

First question. Why Limit? One of the biggest problems with limit is that you can't price your opponent out of any kind of draw or small hand, which is probably what either the button or the cutoff were doing(or both). Also at these low of stakes, you will get even more callers preflop than in the micros in NL, so once the flop comes up, you literally have absolutely no idea where you stand unless you flopped a monster.

Also, you should be auto-topping off. I know it's no NL where you can frequently get your entire stack in, but it still doesn't hurt for some intimidation value.

It only gets harder from here bud. LOL

Your doing the right stuff if your reading and trying to get better. Point: You really should KNOW whether or not your applying what you've learned.

If your not using the info then your basically cheating me. Because the time you spent reading those books you couldve spent at the table shipping me those buy-ins. LOL jk.

Anyways, in that hand you shouldve won that on the flop. If not, you wouldve at least folded out the hand that ended up beating you and taking more $$ from the other guy? You did yourself in.

You raise KTs in EP. Flop TPGK. And bet .04¢ into a .78¢ pot. Of course the fish w J3 is gonna call that weak bet w a back door straight draw and an over card then river you w a J. What did you think was gonna happen?

It is limit holdem, that was all he could bet...

That hand you posted was a train wreak. You should be insta mucking them hands from UTG+1. If your playing micro limit poker you should be all about playing hands in position and getting value.

Agree with Tenbob KTd is not a hand to play from UTG+1. This hand should be played from the cutoff or the button and with great caustion. Since this is limit you won't be able to eliminate players with this hand so position is key.

Hang in there. If Limit is giving you a hard time you may consider switching to PL.

My suggestion for you since you need to get back into the groove is to play in position only and when you play OOP make these the top three gropu hands only. Form the sake that it is limit you might even want to make the OOP plays with the top two groups only.

limit is an awful game. Go to nl that way you can play odds etc a lot better. You gunna get bad beats galore at limit as everyone has pot odds. It becomes bingo at micro stakes. everyone calls. If your serious about playing winning poker id seriously change game type and go to nl. obviously within bankroll management. Then you should be winning more than you lose wiht queens. we hope

I agree go with .02/.05 or ..05/.10 no limit. Limit you have a heard time icing people out. It really is bad if you play live poker. the lowest limit is $1/$2 and you cant ice people out no matter what. To me a $1 chip is money but these dudes at my card room throw out these bets like were gambling or something. In fact in limit whats good on the flop is like a curse by the river cause your so committed but you can almost feel like youre in a losing hand. But sometimes you gotta pay to see it. One time live at my card room, everyone was in the hand until the turn and me and some guy were topping out bets which I think was $8 or $12, Im sitting on top 2 pair and the river brings out the 4th card of the same suite and the guy throws in the biggest bet he can (so the pot is near $70) and like a dummy I fold instead of betting $4 more to win the pot and then the guy flipped over one pair, no flush and I was like DAMN. I had to leave so after as I couldnt stomache seeing all my chips in this guys possession. SO no Ive learned if you take it that far, you gotta pay to see it, and since that time, when I do, I have lost LOL

My question would be how many hands do you participate in. If you have a losing percentage then maybe you are playing to many marginal hands to long.

I find my best work is boring. At low limits its hard to bet someone off so you need strong starting hands to invest in.

Hi, there. Just relax and keep trying. Realize that poker has very very long learning curve. Breath and don't beat yourself up.

Almost any form of poker is profitable if you but in time and effort and don't panic.

Try playing limit 6-Max. I find this to be much easier because you dont have multiple people always calling down like that. I play .25 .5 limit 6 max and typically there are no more than 3 people in the hand
