General Questions: Ring Games Vocab

Hey everyone,

Not really a ring game regular, trying to get into the swing of it. I see a lot of people mentioning something similar to BB/100. (I think that is right but not sure) If anybody can define that for me, as well as any other ring game vocabulary that is used on here that would be great. thanks CC

By BB/100 they're referring to how many BB (big blinds) you win or lose per 100 hands. It's a good metric to gauge how well you're doing on the tables. More practical than say trying to figure out how much $$ you're winning per hour because that would involve so many more variables (table speed, stakes, how many tables you're running, etc)
(I most often see it when people are analyzing their positional stats..from UTG, they're winning ___/100 and from BB they're losing ___/100, so they can identify things they're doing wrong from different positions, such as limping too much from the BB), and compare their ##s to others)

Also common when analyzing your play on certain stakes..IE winning 10bb/100 on 2 NL

This. But there is a difference between bb/100 and BB/100, where bb/100 is the number of big-blinds per 100 hands and BB/100 is the number of big-blinds per 100 hands X 2. Confusing right? That's because one 'BB' is actually two big-blinds on pokertracker (and HEM amiright?) but I don't know the historical reasons for this, something to do with limit holdem I think.

Unfortunately, not everyone uses bb/100 and BB/100 as defines in the previous post, so you do have to keep in mind that you can't automatically assume every post does.

I see a few other abbriviations that I dont understand in some posts Ive read. Is there a legend on here that explains some of the abb. people use. Some are abvious like sng and bb sb , but others seem like a text from a teenager andI get lost.

Okay I have another question...let's say you were trying to rake a certain amount. Does anybody have a decent estimate of the $ that you can expect to rake in a session?
Is there an estimate to the $ of BBs rake per 100 hands, or something like that?

I realize this is a less-definite answer than the BB/100, but if one of the more experienced ring game players could give me a ballpark estimate that would be great. Thanks

You're right, it is to do with limit poker. In this instance it stands for Big Bet as opposed to Big Blind, because in Limit the bet is usually equal to 1 big blind pre-flop and after the flop, but after the Turn and River it is double or 1 Big Bet

So a BB (Big Bet) is 2 bb (big blinds)

Some people will use Big Bet /100, some will use Big Blinds /100, but as Arjonius said, not everyone will stick to the normal abbreviations of BB/100 and bb/100
