I generally bet out flops when I hit a set but with a flop with 3 lows I was hoping to get a little extra value out of it. As you can see it didn't work out this time. Is this a profitable strategy? :D

full tilt poker $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players -

BTN: $1.70
Hero (SB): $2.98
BB: $2.07
UTG: $3.48
UTG+1: $2.79
UTG+2: $4.30
MP1: $1.59
MP2: $1.99
CO: $3.23

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is SB with 6

5 folds, CO raises to $0.08, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.07, 1 fold

Flop: ($0.18) 7

(2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.18, Hero calls $0.18

Turn: ($0.54) 8

Hero checks, CO bets $0.54, Hero raises to $2.72 all in, CO calls $2.18

River: ($5.98) 8

Final Pot: $5.98
Hero shows 6

CO shows 8

(four of a kind, Eights)
CO wins $5.59
(Rake: $0.39)

Hard to swallow at the time, but I'm understanding more that it's just variance and usually crap like this doesn't happen. Thanks!

P.S. I wasn't really sure about where exactly to put this. I don't consider this a bad beat or a hand analysis post. If you guys do then please move it.

This is villain dependent. If villain will get in overpairs then please never slowplay. If he can hand read then yeah start flatting a bit more. At 2NL I'd suggest very rarely slowplaying because I doubt people hand read well.

1st thanks for going back and converting it.

I don't like slowplaying here at all, simply because we're ~150bb deep and if we want to get stacks in we need more than 3 streets. So I like ch/raising the flop with the plan of betting the turn, shoving the river.

So often we're going to see villain check behind on the turn and fold the river when we take this ch/call, check, bet line.

Also not 100% sure on your play preflop here. How wide is the COs stealing range? Do we expect to get lots of money in postflop every time he holds TP+? 150 deep I think I like 3betting smaller to something like .20 unless his range is really strong even from the CO.
