I just returned to online poker after losing my br on black Friday. I am crushing the micros so far, but I have been trying somthing new to me. I have been merging my check raising to include strong top pair and over pair hands. I have had good success, but the sample size is small. I do not always do it, but if the board and opponent are right I go for it. Previously I was mostly check raising strong draws and hands like a set or 2 pair. I would like some opinions from solid winners about the value of check raising with a merged range vs a standard polarized range. Thanks.

OK, Since I didnt get any responses, I'll give my thoughts. Whith a polarized range, my opponent only has to put his range against nuts or bluff, but by including some of my moderate strength hands I can make his bluff catcher calls a mistake. His estimation of my range is likely still that I either have a monster or some kind of draw so he may call me with a bluff catcher, especially if I have been active and agressive. With my top pair / over pair hands I have more hands that are likely to beat his bluff catchers, blockers vs. better top pair hands, and I get paid by people who have betwhencheckedto desiese. I also suspect that players I develop a history with will become less likely call my checkraises because their bluffcatchers lose value.

I do believe that just betting out with top pair hands is usually the better play, but mixing enough check raises with them should sow confusion, creating more opportunities for the enemy to make mistakes. I like to pick agressive players for this play, Both wet and dry flops. I also like it if I 3bet oop.
Any thoughts??

To me it looks like i should be ch/raising merged for value against players who call too many check raises, and you could check raise merged when you've seen somebody c-betting or betting when checked too with bottom and middle pair (as they're going to have less air and more hands to bluff catch when draws miss - presuming they put you on a draw or air hand) Whereas when a guy checks back 2nd and 3rd pair hands it would appear his betting range is more polarised so if you think this is heavily weighted towards air then maybe adjust your range towards air also, whereas if you think he almost always has something then more towards good hands and draws?

obviously ch/raising air/draws can be cool if someone folds to a lot of ch/raises

ch/raising polarised is probably not worth doing if your villain has obvious leaks in folding to too many or calling too many, and yeah betting might just be better in the first place a lot of the time.

Depending on the guy we might just want to check/call all streets or something, dont forget about just check calling. I think the most important thing is to have a checking range which isn't giving up against observant opponents, which is probably like very very very few people.
