Quite awhile back I noticed an extremely common move in online poker that seems to be much less likely in live play.
Lets say you are first to act after the flop in NL or limit for that matter; you hit top pair, or some other strong hand but not the nuts, you raise a decent amount to protect your hand. You are now heads up and your opponent reraises, often I notice most players online calling almost immediatelly, then checking the turn only to fold to a raise by our opponent, I am guilty myself. When I am playing in a live game I am more likely to fold to a similar rearaise and save myself some money. Anybody ever wonder why we do this? Instead of properly thinking the hand through ONLINE we call and likely check the turn just to fold to our oponent's bet unless we hit a monster.
I can think of a few reason but I am curious what my peers think.
1) Because of the shorter amount of time allowed to make moves online we have developed a "bad habit".

Any other good reasons?

There is a distinct difference in calling off a significant portion of your stack live as compared to online.

During live play, you have your chips in front of you and you can see the proportion of your stack that you would use to call visibly.

Online, you don't have chips in front of you, so I think there is a natural human reaction to click call thinking you will hit your card on the turn or that your opponent is bluffing, etc.

I have also noticed this and tend to raise more flops expecting a call.

When you call the reraise, it seems you have a good hand, at this point, to do so. But the turn and/or the river comes, it doesn't seem like a great hand considering what your opponent may have. This may cuase you to fold so you can cut your losses now rather than later where it could be more money.:(

Well the idea here is to solve a major and VERY common hole in people's game. A flaw that is much more prevalent online. I thought we would get a lot more opinions on this one..........

The common hole would be to bet again cause this time to protect the hand. The flop is the info bet and get a feel for where you stand in the hand compared to your oppenent. What if the flop only shows a flush draw and the turn misses the flush Yet you still hold top pair on the board. The protection bet will do 1 of 3 things.. Make him call, raise or fold. Just becaue there was a re-raise doesn't guarantee he has a made hand. You need to put pressure back on the opponent and take that pressure of yourself.

tryed this ina $1 sit&go on pacific, waited till someone raised big preflop then doubled their raise sure as anything they called then i raised big after the flop then came the fold.think it helped that an ace came on the flop though but i admit i did,nt really notice it before prob because when i raise preflop i,m willing to carry on betting.
