First timer here, hopping to get expert advice on what has been happening to me lately:
I little background: I have been a blackjack semi-pro, card counter, for a few years, living in Florida, my only options were the Seminole Tribe and occasional Vegas or cruise ships, I got tire of the long nights counting cards and the long drives to Seminole casinos and getting always above even for years I decided to switch to Poker, played before occasionally for fun, with friends, I decided to give a shoot semipro as part time.
Buy some books, download software’s, training and practice for some time before I starting playing at my local casinos (plenty of them) that offers Poker, NL $1-2 with a $5,000 starting bankroll.
I developed my game as a TAG, playing only good starting hands always raising with the occasionally limping or bluff to disguise my play, having same results as blackjack for some time, been above even for most of the time, going up, then down, waiting for the long run but…
Have been running into an incredible run were I have been beat or at least I believe that I have been beat by maniacs and people that under my understanding of the game they play poor and their hands were beat almost all the time against my hands, happened like 80 to 90% of all the great hands & pots and I have lose almost all my bankroll because of that, here are some of the most memorable ones, I need expert advice on what is going on:
- Holding AA, raise to $25 pre-flop, have 2 callers, flop 10,10,5, raise to $75, one fold, and manic call, turn is 3, rise to all in (about $180) manic calls, river is a 2, he holds 4,6 beat me with straight!
- Holding A.K suited diamond, raise to $25 pre-flop, got one caller, flop Jd, 7d, 2d, the guy bet $50, already having my high flush I call, turns is 7c, the guy checks, I bet $50, he calls! River is a 7h, he shows his jack and beat my high flopped flush with a full house!
- Holding KK, someone raise to $15 when got to me, I raise to $30 then got 2 callers including original raiser, flop is 5, j, 8, only having $165.00 left I go all in, one folds, and one calls, I miss turn and river, guy show a pocket 5, got beat again!
- Holding AK, raise to $30 pre-flop. got 3 callers, flop is A,K,7!! Now is my chance right? Bet $75, two folds, and one calls, turn is a 6, go all in with $180m he calls! River is an 8, he shows 4,5, beat again!
- Holding 10,10, raise to $15 and got 3 callers pre-flop, flop is 10,8,5 I go all in with $240, got 1 caller turn is a 4, river is a 7, he shows 3,6 beat again!
Those are only a few examples, keep in mind that is happening twice or three times every section, for almost 2 weeks losing $500 in every section, there are several more hands like those, I would need a very long post, but exactly have been like 18 out of 20 hands, been a card counter for years and putting maximum bets when the chance calls for it I’m not scare at all of betting big, raising and going all in when I’m supposed to win big. I always take a break after a big hand (win or lose) and keep log, later when I got home analyze the hands, and always have been 75% or more to win. Please help me here:
- I’m suck at game and I haven’t realized that!
- This is a game of pure chance ( I will quit playing semi-pro)
- I’m running into a tremendous bad luck, it will turns around

Help me decide, I enjoy playing cards, but can’t be wasting long hours if this game is like this.
Thanks In advance!

I don't have any experience live nor in such limits, but if you post your hands in the hand analysis section in a neat way I'm sure you'll get some advice on your plays.

I can say min 3betting is not a great play with Kings in that 3rd hand. And there's no info of the positions.

Hope this helps.

It's variance, you well know you want these kinds of players staying in hands with you. You are in the right forum, plenty of really solid cash game players here who, I am sure will be providing feedback to you. Good luck & welcome to CC.

thanks! you mean I went to soft on that one? that I should have bet more?
anyway, update! I decided to keep playing my game and head back to the casino, for the last week things improved a lot, to the point that I made $1,700 in 4 days, not getting killed during those days, before I ended with a losing session of $500 where I lose KK vs AA (acceptable) but lose a perfect straight against quads of 5's, the guy got his 4th 5 on the river ugh! and then lose another big hand straight against a full house, also on the river, starting to understand that this things happens but after a great sailing for 4 days it should happens less over the time. thanks.

Hey man, I dont claim to be a pro, or even semi-pro in holdem. However I do play online every day and in person at least twice a week.

From the sounds of your explanation of the situations, First let me say.. I would LOVE to play against those players. Second, you made all of the right moves, except maybe not raising when you hit the nut flush. Always remember this "If they fold, you win"

You cant let people stick around long enough to catch their hand. Reguardless there will be donks and fish that will get lucky against you. However they WILL donk out and than you will play against your sharks.

I hope this helps you out,

Best of luck
Brandon

I agree with Brandon. You've run into some real fish (which you want) who seem to get real lucky a lot (which you don't want).

If TAG is not working, well try NIT for a while to get a feel with those players, also swap your style a bit. More important is to get your people reading skills up on the poker table, its much more necessary than on BJ.

Some good advice I got years ago was NEVER go all-in on a single pair. Even AA.

That kinds of situations have been happening to me a lot... but not live; happens online at PS. Just today I also had the nuts flush at the flop and played aggressively, just to get called and beaten by a runner runner fullhouse (turn and river were Tens)

We gotta hold in there and hope that things will be positive in the long run if we play right!
