Hi Guys,

Loving the site so far, great source of information, I hope I can contribute something to this community.

I'm going down to a local casino tomorrow to play my first serious live poker (I've only played with friends before really).

I'll be playing a £10 tourney and then maybe a couple of hours of cash games depending on the time.

Do you have any advice for me going to my first live game, things like tells I should be looking out for, in others and in myself, and general etiquette for casino poker.

Any advice you have would be much appreciated, especially from players in the UK.

Thanks in advance, I'll try to respond to this thread quickly but I'll hit the daily limit for new users soon so apologies if I don't!

Edit: This might be better located in the general poker forum if any admin would like to move it for me :)

3am - get some good sleep the night before IMO ;)

Just stay alert, and if you are unsure ask about things. If you want to raise, announce the total size of the bet (so if you want to raise to 150 at 25/50, say 150 then put in 150). Put in chips in one motion - it's best if you announce it first too.

Be friendly, pay attention and you'll be fine :)

This is good advice. Don't be afraid to ask the dealer questions. And for goodness sake, don't wear sunglasses at the table. To me, it just seems silly. :)

Oh, one more thing: protect your cards at all times! No need for a fancy card protector. A chip on the top will do just fine.

I always wear the shades at the tables, the cheaper looking the better. Find yourself a nice pair of those big plasticy 90's shades, like something that you would get for free for being the first 1000 people at a baseball game hahaha. Here we go haha finally found a pic

Just make sure they are shaded enough so people can't see through them! Good luck out there in your first live playing. Hope ya get some beginners luck!

Cheers guys, a nice £240 profit first time out suits me just fine :)

Incidentally, I have shades like that, but they are reserved for beach/pool parties!

If I play against anyone who is wearing sunglasses at a tourney that is less than at least $500 buy-in, I know they are a complete idiot and play against them accordingly

i heard wearing glasses actually improves the chances of starting off with pocket pairs, any truth to this?

Congrats, where did you play? Was the profit from the tourny or the cash tables?

Hope you didn't wear the sunglasses

At the gala casino in Leicester, a small place but there seem to be quite a few decent regulars. Profit was cash tables, went out of the tourney about half way, pair held up against my flush draw.

And no, didn't wear sunglasses in the end :)
