First $5.50 CC tourney

I have only played .55c , $1.10 cent sit-n-gos, micro stake tables and free rolls.

Today I took a shot at the $5.50 CC Buy-in at pokerstars.

I thought I would do OK, play tight, have some discipline.... great plans. I was out before the first blind raise! I felt totally steam rolled! Like I was in a class above anything I had played before and was so damned rattled I mis-cliked a substantial call when I meant to fold.

I'll be trying again but would appreciate some tips on how to get ready.

Thanks, and if anyone at the tables this morning would like to provide some tips I wold really appreciate it.

The 1st mistake you made (IMO) was you played the wrong game. You should have played the FT game with $200 added, that's like 40 player buyins who aren't there = VFM. Your 2nd mistake comes in two parts, 1st, you got rattled, 2nd, you misclicked. In 4 years of playing online I've misclicked twice, 1st time was playing 2 tournies on the same site with the tables overlayed, the 2nd time was playing 3 tournies on 3 different sites and two different games on a 12 inch laptop. I can honestly say I have never been rattled or gone on tilt. I suggest you read or re-read the strategy threads here and apply them to your game and ask youself during post flop play, "what can I beat"? or "if I make my draw, will it win"? Hope this helps.

you will never find a better game than our CC games. i think you set your performance hopes too high and were a bit results oriented. just take the game one card at a time. concentrate and use your poker knowledge to make the right moves.

i was the one you misclicked against. misclicks happen. lucky for you, the blinds were small and it only cost you 60 chips since you were in the big blind anyway. always be aware of your surroundings.

if it makes you feel better, i was out of the FT buy in by the fourth hand.

The "mods" have a bit of "fun" doing this, and just so you know, it's your "rank" not your title, they have access to the admin control panel.

the tags under your name are just a way of showing how many posts you have. it stops changing at some point. i can't remember how many though.

Man, Joe, lemme tell ya.....alot of these players here are REALLY good....while I know it's fun to play with them, let me make the suggestion that you practice your bankroll management. I'm not saying that you didn't by any means.....but you PROBABLY won't skillfully beat this game just yet. The moves that you see in the 5 dollar game with CC players are 100 times different than the moves peole make in the micro stakes games.

IF you have the bankroll, and you WANT to play...then by all means go ahead, you can do nothing but learn in those games....and remember, they're always free to watch....

I never thought that advanced on my tag meant anything about my play, they wouldn't know about my play here... until today.

one good thing about the CC games that it is more tough, but you get better! Although my first CC buyin I won the whole thing! Haven't got 1st since lol

When playing forum buy-in games, you should bring your best play cause most of the players here and in some other forums are great players. Which means that you reduce your chance to win the tourney but you improve your game while playing it. I only play some of our buy-in there as i didn't reach the count post yet, but i had good time and even won some money sometimes, lol. My only regret is the $200 added at Full Tilt Poker. I played it once as i had the required $5.50 and finish 7th. That deceived me cause i play my best poker there but didn't get lucky with my last pp of K's nor what i would have been able to join it more often.
Anyway i will be back soon to revenge, lol.
The important thing to do when playing thoses is to remember that the player that raise you all-in as the river come has more experiences than you.

First - Just play your game. If you trying making fancy adjustments it probably won't work so don't try. just do what you normally do and see how it goes.

Second - CC games aggression are probably about 10x what you are used to seeing, limping is pretty rare. if you are not used to be aggressed it will probably rattle you, just be aware of it and deal with it the best you can.

Third - Have fun, I can't stress this enough. You will rarely if ever find a more fun game of highly competitive and skilled players so regardless of how well you do have fun if you are playing.

Also, the mis-click was due I think to me having extra windows open while we started playing with my starting hand odds charts and junk like that. I was anticipating the slow beginning of a typical low stakes sit-n-go and didn't even really have my head in the game until I was down to an M of 10.

As I put the game in perspective and read everyone's remarks I think I know what to do, and not do, next time.

#1 Turn off the Boob Tube.
#2 Prepare ahead of time to get my head straight.
#3 PLAN on having fun and learning (thanks hojediade).
#4 Expect the agression.

I knew I'd get some good tips if I'd ask.
