Starting with the assumption that this is just a standard game with a SB & BB, no antes. Doesn't really matter, for the sake of this discussion, if there is a standard straddle allowed UTG. But let's leave out straddles from other positions to simplify this.

Question is:
You've decided to leave the game, doesn't matter the reason. Whether you're the type to declare, and/or start racking chips or just leave without notice... You have decided that this orbit will be your last.
At what position on the table do you play your last hand?
Personally, as long as I can, I will typically play until I am UTG, and sit out avoiding the blinds the following hands.

I ask because plenty of the players in the tri-state area here will stay on "to play their button" and I've never really gotten a good answer on this. If superstition, fine. If you want your last hand to be the one in which you have the best position, okay - but you just paid both blinds which grant you free preflop cards for a full orbit.

I usually give an orbit or two heads up, if I am winning. I always quit before the BB hits me, in this case. If I am losing, I might give a shorter notice. Usually, that is well tolerated by the other players. But, in all cases where I still have money, I sit out when the big blind would hit me.

I play though until my last button. I like to play the my very last hand so being on the button I have a wider range of hands to play and having position is always good.

I just play before the big blind hits me. I don't understand why you would leave on the button unless you start on the button and feel like thats where you should end. I don't notify anyone. Just start racking my chips and tell the dealer to not deal me in on the BB. Sometimes I leave a hand or two before but never just after paying the big blind.

I think this depends on the game.

Sometimes it is a really aggressive game, with people you don't really like. Then do what suites you. Leave them to each other... Walk away winning which is really sweet. Have a meal and spend some winnings.

I think when you decide to leave just do it. Nothing worse than getting a cooler in the last hand you play. You feel like crap, and even if you still won, it feels like a loss.

I think a very decent habit is to leave, within 20% of your highest level, money wise

You want to leave? Leave... Who cares if you lose a BB? Just leave.

If someone "plays their button" then leaves, instantly mark them as a rec fish.

You didn't have to remove your original sig just because I hated on it! Keep it and be proud! Learning from losses is good but also learn from your wins and ask if you won due to variance in your favor or genuine outplays.

I actually changed it to a quote of yours but I felt like that was mean so I deleted it. I don't need to ask anyone if I'm winning due to variance. I have close to a million hands played with positive results to tell me that.

In tournaments that are beyond 'early phase' defending blinds IS important. But in cash games or the general idea of poker it should be the last thing in your reasoning to call a pre flop raise.
