Hi everyone, need some advice as I think I have a leak in my game.

First of all, I play on unibet, NL 0.2.- 0.4, 6 - max, 100 bb deep so no hand history to post:)

As the title says, how do you handle open ended straights, or flush draws on the flop? Do you chase? I know it's a very vague question as it depends on opponents and position, but anyway some opinions would be welcomed.

I know pot odds but since it's 6 max and the action is more often 2 sided you won't get them if the opponent is any good.

Case in point, sorry I can't post the actual hand:

Position: SB
Cards dealt: KQ hearts

CO bets, BT calls, I 3bet, BB calls (nitty) CO fold BT fold
Flop: A hearts, 9 hearts, K spades
I c-bet 1/2 and get a 3bet from BB for 3/4 pot

Now what? I'm 100% he has an A, but probably not an AA, KK or AK.
The way I see it, I either fold or shove.

If I call, and turn is blank I will face another 3/4 or pot sized bet.
If turn hits the flush he'll fold to any significant bet.

Any opinions are welcomed

Open Ended Reply

In my mind it depends on how lucky you are lol. I'm pretty danged unlucky at these tables & my wins are ALL skill (again in my mind) perhaps the odds calculator would be helpful here. Gl

If you cant block bet it is better to check it or just call a bet there. This is a good enough flop for KQs to continue. It would be an easier decision if you were not playing oop though.

I definitely don't want to shove here. I want a chance to see as many cards with as little investment as possible. I also don't like your 3 bet pre flop because you're oop and now when nitty BB calls we have no way of determining how strong his hand is. If you had called and he does have AA, KK, AK you would have probably had a substantial 3bet from him and have a better idea where you stand.

You only want this pot to get big if you make your flush. If you happen to make 2 pair or you make the flush but the board pairs, you want to proceed with caution.

I try not to chase straight draws unless I can do it cheaply. If I get an open ended straight draw with a flush draw I like it a lot better!

if you think he has an ace. i would call his bet. and chase it.
but it varies to other situations:
just because he just called your bet pre-flop. ill guess like you, that he doesnt have a monster.
and if thats the case, i feel like the heart is not my only out.
After the turn you need to reevaluate your hand and if your outs decreased maybe you would fold to a bigger bet.

You're the one who bloated the pot with your preflop 3bet.

Slow down and keep the pot small until you hit your draw.

As played shove.

Thing is, I don't wan't to play oop against two players who raised with God knows what (CO, BT). And I don't want to fold KQs.

So how do you play this? Check?

Regarding the nit, I'd snap fold to a 4bet.

You only want this pot to get big if you make your flush. If you happen to make 2 pair or you make the flush but the board pairs, you want to proceed with caution.

Unfortunately he bet in to me...

I'm not sure why not. Your hand is really only good if you make the flush. And if you make the flush you're going to have almost the nut flush. As it turns out with the Ace on the flop you are drawing for the nut flush. With the nut flush, the more people in the hand the better. If the board pairs, you need to proceed with caution regardless of how many people are in it. Same if you make a top pair of Kings or Queens.

With KQs you want to play for a large pot if you make the flush or a small pot if you don't. And don't worry about throwing them away if someone makes a large bet into you before you make the flush. It's OK to muck the best hand if you're not SURE you have the best hand.
