First off, Doyle is one of my favorite players, but just like any other profession, new people will always come along that can out perform you. But Doyle's a master at his craft while most modern pros are just journeymen. Doyle doesn't have anything to prove anymore. You have to be excited and motivated to win at poker and Doyle could live very comfortable for the rest of his days without playing one more hand of poker. Plus a lot of pros got to were they are today by reading Doyle's book among others. A good example would be the wise carpenter who teaches a young man how to build. While the young man doesn't know anything yet the carpenter can give him the knowledge to become a faster an more effective builder. Therefore, the master can teach the apprentice to become greater than himself. Plus to be honest, Doyle is just getting older, and with naturally declining health I'm sure it's harder for him to perform 100% all the time. Just think about trying to grind people while your body is probably achy, and you need a wheel chair to comfortably get around. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking down on him, just trying to put you in his eyes.
