the local charity room around here offers a 2/4 and a 4/4 LHE game. I have never played LHE but I would say that patience and understanding mathematical aspects of the game are two of my strengths. Even with the crazy rake I'm wondering if this game could be beatable. So in a LHE game that has the betting capped at 4 per round, does that mean that if the action was maximized the betting progression would go
-4
-8
-12
-16
FLOP
-20
-24
-28
-32
TURN
-36
-40
-44
-48
RIVER
-52
-56
-60
-64
This is a hypothetical example of the maximum betting between two players in both a 2/4 and a 4/4 game? I feel like i'm way off but if someone could throw a hypothetical scenario at me to clarify the betting in LHE.

Okay I thought that so for 2/4, a turn bet progression would go 8 16 24 32? Is doubling the bet optional or mandatory?

Mandatory, but your bet sizing for first 2 streets is double what is should be for 2/4.

Preflop and Flop are correct.

The turn would be

40
48
56
64

River

72
80
88
96

That would be between two players. But some rooms there is no cap heads up. But using your example the pot could go up to $96 if you were blind vs blind before rake between two players.

Preflop and Turn are the small bet. Meaning in this example $2 increments. The turn and River are big bets. That would be in $4 increments.

But to just use just betting and not adding the pot it would go like this:

Preflop

2
4
6
8

Flop

2
4
6
8

Turn

4
8
12
16

River

4
8
12
16

Only difference in the $4/ $4 game is

Preflop

4
8
12
16

Flop

4
8
12
16

Hmm, this is very interesting. It feels like in LHE it's essential to understand pot odds, the value of drawing hands, the increased equity with 3flushes and 3straights, etc. I've deduced that it's impossible to have a winrate at 2/4 and even 4/4 LHE with the insane charity room rake but i'm intrigued by the game. I've been told by many its like watching paint dry but I know many pros (such as Daniel Negreanu) started their careers by grinding midlevel limit hold em cash games. If I could ever get access to an 8/16 game I might give this type of thing a shot.

Don't forget the importance of position. It's an extremely useful weapon in limit games and should not be underestimated. If you ever intend to cross over to no limit, limit is very useful in terms of strategy. I used to play 3/6 limit live and it helped me understand the game a lot better and was key in my transition to no limit.
