Do you stand a chance if you haven't doubled up by the first break of a rebuy?

And you are in the bottom 4/5 of the tourney, even after you add-on.

Jack Strauss baby. All you need is a chip and a chair! Realistically your chances are very slim and I don't know if you should even bother with an addon if you are in the bottom bracket like that.

I've come back from 35 chips in a 4000 person freeroll to come 2nd. I was very proud of myself for not giving up.

You shouldn't be in that situation. Sure you stand a chance, but its often better to take a coin-flip close to the break, and double up or bust. Gamble more during the re-buy period.

sure you stand a chance, i placed 6th in $3 rebuy and only won two hands the first hour and neither of them were double ups

Once I pushed all-in last hand before break and lost. Bought double rebuy plus addon and made final table.

So yes it is possible.

Good advice.

However, there are times I have been in the same situation. Sometimes you take a beat close to the end of the rebuy period and have no opportunity to recover.

I can recall once last year being busted down to near-last and short-stacked just before the break. I declined the add-on, thinking it was hopeless. Right after the break, I had a hot run of cards. Doubled up three times. Finished up taking 3rd place.

Obviously, that`s the exception, but it can happen. Don`t give up.

Do you always rebuy in a rebuy tourney?

I play some rebuy fr and rarely rebuy. So, for me, I do beleive you've got a shot and I'd just keep on trucking. If you plan on rebuying anyways, go with the advice already given.

Yeah sure you do. I tighten up and wait on a great hand and then gamble with it if I have to, hoping to double up or better.

ive come back from 100 to finish in the top ten all you need a real good card streak...not very likely when your down that far to have a good comebacck but it happens

It's all about how you are feeling at the table at that moment you lose. say you have made some good plays just got busted (or close to it) with just some bad luck, you might want to give it another try.

The obv answer is yes, but it will be one hell of an uphill journey

Its all about how you feel at the table and if you learned how everyone else is playing, theres always a chance. But some times its not good to rebuy, it may just not be your day at the table

im thinking i read a blog or post by annie duke one time about rebuy trnys. she always alots herself one rebuy and one addon. at the addon period, if she has ten percent or more of what chip leader has, she DOES NOT addon...

I think whether to add-on or rebuy also needs to give consideration to the odds of placing and recouping the cost. If at the break there are several hundred players playing and say only top 10 get paid, then it is not a wise gamble. I also agree a player should think about betting very aggressively and building that stack by "luck" as opposed to re-investing. I rarely rebuy!

Yes it is very possible to come back. Just start playing in push or fold mode. There are a lot of books that have plenty of chapters written on short stack play, take advantage of them. Tom Mcevoy has written some excellent tournament books, look him up!

I've personally found that as long as I had a cip in my stack--There was a chance---I believe what my signiture states!! AND! NEVER GIVE UP-NEVER GIVE UP-NEVER GIVE UP THE SHIP!! GL!

In the last two CC freerolls I've played, the $1000 Titan last Thursday & todays FT game, I was down to 290 early in the Titan, and 555 after 2nd break in the FT game. I made the final table in BOTH games through patience, picking my spots and bluffing at the right time after observing how others were playing. The sweet $47 was a nice payoff too. Ooops, forgot played the Carbon one too on Friday and as usual, went out to a suckout, but that's poker.

In a rebuy I like to have around 16K in chips at the end of the rebuy period and that is a lot more than doubling up. You can't think of a rebuy as just what the buy-in is. A $1.00 rebuy buy-in I usually figure on spending $5.00 and $3.00 buy-in $15.00. The object of the tournament in this rebuy period is to win the tournament. Don't think about just cashing, that's not good enough.

If I'm not even close to my goal of 16K in chips by the end of the rebuy period I won't even consider doing an add on. I will just try to catch up with what I have.

It's a good thing to remember that some of those that were playing pretty loose during the rebuy period will have a hard time changing gears when they can no longer rebuy. They will continue to bet loose. Play tight here and stay away from marginal hands when you're not in position to play them. When you get that great hand you can take those loose guys for a lot of chips.

I think even with 1 chip in any tourney you have a chance.
I don't remember the exact amount I had. but the blinds had me all in
with over a 1,000 players left. I came back to make the final table.
SO YES. 1 Chip is enough.

you just need some luck
luck can change the game and you probaly could double up if you gamble some before the break just try to get to see realy small flops and if you have something push it all in or bet it just depends on how you play
cause you probaly play realy tight you should play some aggresive to get some blinds

Never give up

Theres always a chance, even as a small stack two to three successfull all ins and your right back in the game, if the rebuys are small and you have had a bad run, the odds are with you to start winning. Variance can be your friend or your enemy. Personally I think variance favors the small stacks, so once you have doubled up a couple times, start tightening up again. Good luck.

You laways have a chance....as long as you have chips you are ok. i have seen someone double up with 400 chips and then double up two hands later and then once you get late in a tourney u have to factor in that the antes and blinds make the pots so big not only will u be doubling up against another opponenent but u will be taking in the pre-flop pot too if u win. So you always have a chance and should never feel like u are out of a tourney.

Even really good players would have a hard time in that situation.

It's key to have a correct bankroll for rebuys so that your not shy to try and make a big stack.

Its ok to rebuy a few times if you can play good deepstack poker once you finally make a deepstack, which in a rebuy, will happen if your bankrolled for it and not playing like a nit in the rebuy hour.

I, personally, am awful at rebuys. I prefer Freezeouts.

Rebuys are where the $$$ is at though.

And thats not to say it can't be done OBV. But your chances of shortstacking to the money in a rebuy are slim to none.
