This is a discussion on Do you recommend 'Essential Poker Math' by Alton Hardin? within the online poker forums, in the Cash Games section; Is the theories he follows valid? Any critique or review of his method?
I'm not a big fan of that kind of analysis. Poker is more organic than just straight maths. It's a bit like try to put a telescopic sight on a sawn off shotgun.

Use math to decide on starting hands.
Use math to decide on all-in situations.
Use psychology for all the rest.

I think that in poker they do not serve the math you can calculate my good your out favor but sometimes luck and take risk can make the difference between victory and defeat

I only use math and calculator for starting hand. You can use math to play poker but not win with only it.

re: Poker & Do you recommend 'Essential Poker Math' by Alton Hardin?
I don't know that book, but the title says essential meaning basics. If you don't know the basics then sure give it a go. Poker is full of people who don't know even the basics from poker math, they are happy to donate some free money to you.
