If so how do YOU personally apply it to your game? For example does your roll reflect 20x the max buy in or 40? Do you buy in for the min or the max? When do you jump or drop in stakes? Things such as that.

I have 1 comment about BRM, Do you honestly follow it if you goto casino and play a WPT qualifier??? or just a simple say $105 buy in.

If most of you answer that with yes most of you are lying. I go by the sink or swim model play at the level you feel you could do well, and go from there. Using BRM is an accountants way of playing poker and probably bore you to death and make you hate the game before you become profitable. (an you know how most people think of accountants BOARING!!!)

I play the game to have an enjoyable time and maybe make a few DOLLARS while i play, making pennies at a .25 cent game just baffles me. I am not trying to take away the value and learning experience you get from going down to these levels but I use them more for a warmup and see if I am catching cards that day.

I disagree with this comment mate.

Yes while I can be fun to take a shot and play outside your roll once in a while it is more times than not going to end up badly.

BRM I think is essential to anyone who wants to make money in poker. There is no rush to move up levels as poker for me is all about constantly learning and having fun.

If you are serious about the game then yes BRM is a must but if you just like to play the odd MTT now and again for fun or play a bit of cash once or twice a week and have enough money to re-deposit if you go broke then then I suppose it is not as important.

I see no harm in being aggressive with your BRM when starting of at the micros if you are certain you can beat the stake you are playing, but I would still suggest a minimum of 20 buy-ins at whatever stake you are playing if playing cash and don't be afraid to move down levels if you have to.

The higher the stakes the more buy-ins you need imo, as edges become smaller and variance becomes higher.

I guess it just boils down to how serious you are about poker.

Phlegmatic what is your main game ? Cash or MTT and what stakes are you currently at ?

Once I hit 24 buyins for the next highest limit I'll take a 4 buyin shot and just stay there until I fall below 20 and repeat. The problem most people have is not dropping limits commensurate with their roll. Lots of people say they use a 20 buyin strategy but what they really mean is they "start with" 20 buyins. They then go on a completely normal 10 buyin downswing but never move down so they're on 10 buyins. Even with a significant edge playing on 10 buyins is asking to go bust.

Moving up stakes when you're tilted is something you need to learn to not do from trial&error. Tilted death spiral microstakes regs probably contribute a big % of small stakes winrates.

For me,playing 4 tables, 20% of my bankroll in each table.
Not planing to hit big, just earning abit of income.

40BI-50BI ideally for me, especially since at 100NL i think my skill edge has decreased a bit, increasing variance. Im a bankroll nit though due to some bad experiences with stretches of being on the negative side of variance.

I use a similar method. 25 buyins for the next level = a 5 BI shot.
I'm very immune to tilting and I have zero problems moving back down if I drop below those 20 BIs.

Those 20 BIs represent 40-50 BIs at the lower stakes, so I consider that good BRM.

For me,playing 4 tables, 20% of my bankroll in each table.

This, however, is a recipe for disaster. You're 4-tabling with only 5 BIs? That's planning to lose a bit of income, imo.

40 buy-in is considered normal.25 buy-in is aggressive approach, anything less is not ideal.

For about a year my main game was MTT but this was freeroll. Now i mainly focus on cash for the past six months. Home games and local get togethers. Ive never been to a casino but my roll currently is 1k and going to bump it to 4k before i start playing live casinos sometime in October. October is when I'm going to take my roll very serious and use brm deliberately. 4k is when i am going to look at my roll as an actual roll that brm will be applied to. As of right now i am just in the process of building it. The 4k will give me 20 max bins for 1/2 NLHE. I'd rather play 2/5 because I've heard the rake is easier to beat but I'm not going to wait until I'm 12k deep to play live and going into 2/5 with something like 5k would be absurd.

you need to play so that your bankroll has at least 20 buy-ins . of course still it depends on how you play . but at least better than that.

Bankroll management is everything. I however am having a hard time adhereing to it. I refuse to load tho. I won a 900 player freeroll today, so that gives me 36 bux to start all over again. of course if I just do the freerolls I cant go wrong..LOL

Yeah i can attest to the micro spiral, won a 2.20 rebuy and tried to step it up to the low level with 11 dollar MTTs. When i instead should have stayed where i was and built up farther and played comfortable, definitily a regret. Ill just have to learn from it, and hope i can repeat and build up again.

I aim for a 200 buyin bankroll. Ive gone from $12 to nearly enough to play 0.02/0.05 on Stars in 5 years :) slow but I'm getting loads of practice for nothing :)

if you do not want to constantly replenish your account, then you need to monitor bankroll management, play fun and there will be no problems

I can't say that I always follow my bankroll management, but I know I should. I like to use the 100x buy in rule.

Probably the first thing I learned playing as a kid. Have always practiced it. Do I occasionally take a shot, yes I do, but not for a buy in that will affect my bank roll if I don't cash. Two things, poker is & always has been a hobby for me & it has been years since I have deposited.

Yes, but it took a long time for me to understand its importance and really start using this fundamental concept when we play long term. (although every now and then... Wait...😅)

I always follow my bankroll management system. This allows me to feel more confident and show a stable result. I prefer tournaments and never spend more than 5% of my bankroll per day.

I play Hyper HuSnG, using a medium BRM here.
I level up at 50 BI, and if it goes below 40 I go back to the previous level.
