6 seater sng strategy?

Hey all.. New member here :)

Just wondering if anyone has a working strategy for 6 seater micro sng tourneys?

I find I do best at these, to build my bankroll (ever so slowly).. But the players are so terrible I always seem to get donked, usually on the river.. Which then sends me on tilt lol!! They honestly call (and chase) with anything!!

I also play the Dirty DOzen sng on ipoker network.. should i keep playing these, or find a strategy for 1 table 6 seater sit n gos, and avoid the extra rake I pay in the jackpot tourneys?

Anyone have any advice on how to get around these players.. I find them harder than people who can actually play!

Cheers

Aus.

I see people talk about this a lot that the micro players will call with anything, which is very true a lot of the time, but they are still beatable. If you want to get around a lot of that, you might want to deposit a little more money and got up just one limit. Many times you will get the biggest donks at the lowest level that a site will offer, so if you move to the next level, it's possible you will get away from a lot of them. Although, usually if you are unable to beat one level, you're probably going to have a hard time beating people at a higher level up.

You might want to try looking at your stats, because of a lot of people who I've talked to having a similar problem, I usually find that most of them are playing way too many hands, VPIP's up to 45-55%. Even though it might not seem like you are playing way too loose, it might be the case. Try tightening up a bit and your hands might be able to hold up a lot better when you're in those situations against the donks.

Well usually I can do alright at $5 sngs.. but it goes against my bankroll management and if i have a downswing i lose..

I usually have about $80-$100 lingering in my account.. It goes up, then down, then up a bit more.. Then down lol

I go on tilt when these players hit on the river.. Just 5 minutes ago i had top pair on the flop with A-9 flop was 3-4-9.. So i shoved.. K-J calls me and hits a jack on the river.. The donks cant lay any 2 picture cards down..

Would you reccomend slow playing these hands, and dont play such advanced poker?

I figure the continution bet rarely works at these levels, as well as semi bluffs..

Also if ive hit top pair against a board where theres 2 suits.. Against your average-intermediate player i would bet big so as not to let them catch it.. but for $2 they are going to chase anyway..

Would you agree with any of this?

I understand exactly what you're saying. And it's true, at the low levels, there are MANY players who won't let got of face cards, or an Ace with anything suited. But in the example you gave me, you shouldn't have done much different even if you knew he had KJ before you pushed. You had 76% equity with your hand, so 3 out of 4 times with that same situation, you would win, you just ended up getting the low end of the draw this time. You could try to do more of a slowplay strategy, but the problem is that you will allow a lot of the hands that would end up folding in cheap and then they have a chance to hit something and beat you anyway.

Keep playing the Dirty Dozen games, the jackpot is attainable, I know this as it is the biggest prize that have gotten in on-line poker, a good thing about these games is the fact that you don't have to win the 4 in a row on the same day, you get 14 days to achieve the 4 wins.
Good Luck from a fellow Aussie.

Loose players are definitely beatable, although no strategy will work all the time. In general, somewhat on the tight side will work quite well, and it's good to try to play them in position with hands that are +EV against their range.

It's also helpful if you can separate out the loose weak players from the LAGs so you can adapt your play to their respective tendencies.

In the case mentioned, you played correctly.

My general strategy at micros is to pay attention to betting patterns. Most loose players have set betting patterns. Some shove any hand that they play all in pre flop. Some will check to see the flop cheap, underbet when they are strong, and overbet when they are weak. Use position to your advantage, and use their betting patterns as a tell against them.
