How big is the difference between opponent playing styles from .02NL & 10NL.?

And for those who play .10NL what is considered a good BB/100 for BR building?

I play by Ferguson's 5% rule as far as my BRM goes and been itching to move up but I hear there's a significant difference in skill level and I can barely grind about 8BB/100 playing .05NL so any input is greatly appreciated before I try to make a run at it lol.

Not big.

8BB/100 at 5NL is solid enough if you're happy in your game IMO :)

8bb/100 over how many hands?

If you have $200-$250, take a shot. If it doesnt go so well, drop back down.

I think if you have a sample of 50k hands making 8BB/100 then moving up is surely the right decision BR permitting. 20-30k hands you could consider but its dicey. I think as you move up levels you get less profit from others tilting away their stacks so your A-game needs to be a lot better than their A-game.

Good luck.

yea its really not that big, other than the fold button seems to work a little more, unlike in .01/.02

Why are people so bothered about the amount of hands, probs 25nl+ its worth staying for a while and playing a decent amount but under 25nl? its the micros, the idea is to get out of them not sit grindin for months until you have 50k hands to prove your beating it, 20-30k hands @ 8BB/100 would be dicey to move up?? are you kiddin me?

2 & 5nl are joke levels, just get yourself to $250 and take a shot, don't waste 50k hands of grinding at 5nl if your beating it for 8BB/100

Seriously if your beating it for 8bb then move up if u have 15+ buyins for NL 10. Obviously though drop down if you lose more than 3 buyins but take a shot because uour paying much more rake at NL 2 and the skill difference between NL2 and NL 10 is negligible

Thanks for all the responses I got my BR up to $228 so according to the 5% BR management I've been following I was open to the idea of moving up just wasn't sure if I was ready - 8BB/100 is based on my sample of 26,000 hands I played combined between .02NL and .05NL barely got PT3 so don't really have a large HH to pull from but I had been beating .02NL for months before I even considered getting PT3.

gotta be honest with you here 26k hands is not a lot, you might be on a roll here. i do agree with moving up but if things start going bad make sure you drop down and grind some more. no shame in dropping down, i did it, others have done it, and with these said i hope you don't need to drop down and wish you very good luck at your new level.

Take the shot, move up.
But as others have said be prepared to move back down.
If you are serious about your BR management, then you know what we are talking about.

To add a little point, the last thing you want to do is get stuck at micro stakes for any period of time other than the minimum necessary - the rake is relatively huge compared to higher stakes. My opinion at least :)

I am facing a similar decision. I am playing at 4NL, the lowest level at Carbon so it's really 2NL at sites that offer 2NL games. The competition is really very easy, and I have built up my BR to almost $230 from $50 now.

I remember when I first moved up to 5NL from 2NL at pokerstars last year, I got slammed in the beginning. Not sure if I am ready. I am having an easy time at 4NL. Dunno if I wanna ruin a good situation.

Well first off thanks to everyone for the amazing support and just to update I experienced the same thing as blueskies - the moment I moved up to 10NL I just ran really bad for like 7 sessions straight (people hitting 2 outters on me) till I dropped down to $150 from $225. My AIEV is like $65 above my money won lol so unfortunately I'm back down at 5NL slowly BUT SURELY grinding my way back up.
