I played at a $2/$5 table tonight... Started with $500 (which is max buy in), was up to about $1500-$1600 (this is from grinding out 6-7 hours of playing)... It was getting late and I was getting a bit tired and was just about ready to leave when I get pocket Js... The fish to my right, who had about a $1200 stack (he caught a straight draw for a double up on a showdown against trips), raises it up to $25 preflop... I reraise to $125... It folds around to him and he calls... Flop comes 8 2 2 with 2 hearts... I have position, but he bets out $250... At this point, I should have moved all in, which is what I usually do with an overpair depending on the situation, but I instead just call (bad move, I know)... Turn comes King... Now he moves all in for about 8 bills... So at this point, I'm thinking he has a flush draw... Then I second guess myself and put him on AK and I took about two minutes before I talked myself into folding and flipped over my jacks to show him what I folded... He flips over 9 7 of hearts with a sigh of relief and asks the dealer to show the river... It was a HEART!.... But wait... JACK OF HEARTS! Which would have filled me up!!!
I think me not pushing all in on the flop was a worse move than not calling his all in because by not going all in, I not only gave him a free card, but I also let him put pressure on me to call with a pair of jacks with a king on the board... I played great the whole night, but this hand towards the end of my session was my biggest mistake... Why didn't I call? Or better yet... Why didn't I push on the flop? If I call and win, it would have been a $2000+ profit night instead of $600.... If I push, I think the fish still calls with the flush draw and I still take it down... I guess tomorrow's another day... I just hate that I made such a stupid mistake...
