HI,
If I cold call such as from BB vs MP, how many do I have to defend vs. cbet to Idont being exploitable? I have thought that I have to defend 1-A. So if is pot 10$ and vilain cbets 5$ I have to defend 50%. But I read that I dont have to defend so many. why not? how is it meant? how many do I have to defend? thank you for your response

I think that defending range strongly depends on the strength of your hand post flop. If you don't have any equity and your hand is unlikely to get stronger on later street, just fold. Lets say that you called with :7d4::8d4: and flop comes :3d4::10d4::ks4:. You have a flush draw, so you can defend, because you are likely to improve on later streets. If the flop comes :6d4::9s4::kd4:, you can even reraise (with such strong draw) to balance your sets and two pairs, which you would probably reraise here as well. But if flop comes :3d4::qs4::kc4:, then you can fold right away because you don't have any equity, it is much harder to bluff OOP and there is no reason to loose money in such spot.

The thing is that statistically you will hit pair about 1/3 of the times and some other times you will get some draws, so you don't have to call with air, just to call with certain frequency. You will naturally get some hands to call or reraise. The key here is to balance your (semi) bluffs with strong hands, not just to balance your calls with any cards.

I think as long as you look at it as 'defending your blind' you're going to make bad decisions.
