So if anyone read my post in brags/beats, I am currently running pretty badly all-in (about 10 BI below EV). So the past two days I've been grinding hard to work it back. I've played a lot of hours and got back 4 BI, I have been concentrating and playing quite well.

Anyway today I sit down and withing 15 minutes my Aces are cracked by KIngs, I run my Kings into Aces, my Queens into a lagtards Kings and then run set over set and... BANG 4 BI's gone within 300 hands. I quickly closed down my tables to avoid tilting off more and have come to rant here.

So this has probably been asked a million times here but....

What does everyone do when they have had a horrible session? Do you leave and do something else (maybe go and beat up some kids to get out the aggression) or just grind on through (you emotionless ****s)?

I take some time away from the table as it only seems to get worse when I try to force it.It doesn't;t really matter what I go and do (unless it is drinking which exacerbates the problem:) ) , just the act of breaking the mood up seems to help me adjust.

Go to the gym, Im not saying that as a joke. Im not sure how old you are and if you like to do things like that, but the gym always lets me blow off steam. You get to rage on the weights and it really makes you just go all out. I usually go until i exhaust myself and then I have a little less anger. On top of that, you can go look at all the hot broads on the treadmills and ellipticals.

Suppose it depends how you're playing poker. Are you just playing casual? Or are you trying to earn some serious money by putting in proper hours?

Because as a casual player myself, I think just taking the rest of the day off works well. Or at the very least a good chunk of the day. Go away and come back. Play some Xbox, get out and go see some friends, chill out doing whatever you like to do and take your mind off it.

My profits are 10BIs below my EV so far this month so you're not the only one who's not been running great. We both know that in one of the next few sessions you play you're going to have some donk shove all in with trash when you have AA or KK and you're gonna get paid off. And we also both know that you've been playing the right poker and getting it in good. Just remind yourself of tihs.

When I get tilted I go to the free tables and donk off all my play chips. Then I go grab a beer and have a smoke. After that I feel okay again.

I find the play money thing is great. Sometimes I'll sit at a table and just min-raise every single time the action comes to me. Sooner or later someone catches on and starts doing it as well. I've had some pretty funny situations arise that had me laughing my ass off.

I don't usually go right back to cash games after that.. I still like to take a breather, but it helps improve my mood which facilitates a quicker return.

I also like Yoga and getting fresh air.

I think video games is terrible, at least it is if you're trying to get level headed for some more poker. Last thing you need is more bright screen in your eyes and another game that could potentially tilt you further.

This is my luck today in 800 hands:
- FH vs. quads
- set of Q vs. set of A
- KK vs. a set (guy has AF of 12, 'nuff said)

It all happened in last 12 minutes (3 buyins, makes it 4 total today).

Now I am on a 8 BI downswing (6 BI if EV adjusted) and not very happy at all. I don't think I am playing really that horribly but whatever.

When such shit happens (tends to happen on Sundays for some reason) I usually take a few hours off and sometimes even few days off. I play games (GREAT for releasing aggression), watch TV, whatever... today I watched vinyl play Zoom (of course with my help he lost :D).

Basically I know that shit like that is likely to get me tilted so I just avoid playing.

Yeah I know the feeling. It is form of tilt as you said. Hate of loosing when you play perfect that can still affect you. I read Jared Tadlers book and he said that quiting is not the best way to do. You must embrace it , being aware of it and learn how to play good poker even when this kind of tilt hits you. Training your mind to recover when in tilt mode is the way to go for your future sessions if you want to go to the next lvl. At the moment I struggle to sometimes to recover. Is like lifting a very heavy rock up of your chest. Is that hard. To clear you mind in seconds when the fog covers your eyes:)

UTG raises to $0.75, UTG+1 calls $0.75, MP1 calls $0.75, MP2 calls $0.75, 1 fold, Hero raises to $26 (All-In), 4 folds, UTG+1 raises to $27.49 (All-In), 2 folds

, 2

Turn: ($54.60) 5

(2 players, 2 all-in)

Total pot: $54.60 | Rake: $2.73

UTG+1 had 6

, 6

(flush, Jack high).
Hero had K

, K

(three of a kind, Kings).
Outcome: UTG+1 won $51.87

At least this one will show on EV, but losing 5 buyins in a day while playing without big mistakes (and no that shove is not a mistake on a Saturday against these muppets) against utter imbeciles has gotta ruin your cool. Good thing is that I am pretty deep so this is not crippling my bankroll.

As for Jared, I srsly don't think that it is optimal to push yourself.

Again???

Seriously, I think anyone who necroes a thread should be banned for a week. Old threads have CLEAR note on the bottom that says to open a new thread.

if you can manage the tilt by losing these types of hands i dont see why you should leave the table as soon as your poker isnt afected by your emotions. the best thing to do is just to take a break, or lower the limits you have been playing.
the worst thing to do is playing stakes you cant afford in order to recover the money you lost, because in most cases you will eventually end up broke.

I am currently having a bad run myself. If I am tilted I go to the gym or go to the driving range to hit golf balls.

Has the nature of having a bad session changed in the last year? Opening a new thread somehow contributes more?

Necroing (= resurrecting dead) threads is generally frowned upon on most forums for several reasons.

This forum specifically states "This thread is over 1 month old, you may consider starting a new thread."

Recently many threads are getting necroed and a lot of new ones are being started with inane posts or copy paste of stuff easily found in Google. It reduces quality of the forum since it increases spam and wastes everybody's time (like replying to threads that even the thread opener forgot by now).

Man some subjects are worth reopening or repeted. There are houndreds of new members beginner lvl on cardschat that probably never heard about the basic things discussed here. I think I saw the basic odds question at least 30-40 times. But every time it is worth replying because thee are probably 20-30 new ppl reading . If someone is interested or has putting his time on reading older posts and has something to add I see no reason to jump on him. He may reconsider or not opening a new one.

I think opening a new one isn't bad, things get outdated quickly. AFAIK even J. Tendler is writing (has written?) a new book on the subject.

Thing is swingro is that he's trying to add advice toward OP when OP has been gone for months.

Gym it up, maybe get out the house watch some poker that inspires you, try to think about all the times you've played well and rightly won tournaments and outplayed good players at cash tables.

I just try and reassure myself im running bad.
Look at the hands lost and see if there was a better way I could of played it

Stop multi tabling!! very important.
one table practice observation win that game. dont multi table till you prove to yourelf your thinking right

record the good ones

before start your sesion keep in mind all the times your kings destroyed their aces, all the times that with AK you overcome to pocket aces,

those times your pair won over a top pair in the river getting a set, those time you open raise with suited connectors and you get a flush or a straight, have you ever been in the other side of a bas beat? how many tiemes you enter a pot bcause you were seated in the BB and nobody raised and you that the flop gave you a trip handing you garbage like 8-3 or 7-2? what about the times you went allin with AQ against AK and won? What about the pots you won because the board gave you 4 cards same color in a clash against better hands? what a bout the time you were losing to a flush and you get a full house in the river? what about the time the board gave you a quadrads?

now if you can control your anger anyway find something to punch or kick like boxers do and hit it as hard as you can

but the kids, please leave the kids alone

BTW. I wonder what happened to him. He left poker for good? He had some problems with his visa and nothing after that.
