This is a discussion on Crushing 2NL zoom FR, can't beat 5NL within the online poker forums, in the Cash Games section; Hi,
I looked at my HUD and I'm 10bb per 100 at 2NL Zoom FR over 30000 hands, which is nice, but I'm getting beaten over
I looked at my HUD and I'm 10bb per 100 at 2NL Zoom FR over 30000 hands, which is nice, but I'm getting beaten over 10000 hands at -6 bb per 100 at 5NL and I think it's because people are a bit more aggressive (squeezing etc...) and it tilts me sometimes.
Same thing in 6-max, I beat 2NL, not 5NL...
Am I the only to see a significant difference in the player pool quality? Less fish at 5NL it seems. Do you have to adjust when moving up to 5NL?
Not sure what's my question, but I'm looking at answers to beat this game...thx!

30000 hands is not really enough to say that your winrate of 10bb/100 is accurate. It does tell you that you are definitely on the right track though.
So 10000 hands tells you even less. So I would say keep at it.
People will 3bet you light and resteal against your steals much more often in 5nl, I definitely noticed the shift myself. But don't tilt just because of that, use your HUD to know which opponent's you can 3bet bluff, and which you shouldn't. Remember that without information on an opponent, it's better to be more disciplined and fold, especially when you get 3bet/ think about making a light 3bet yourself.
And good bankroll management can't be stressed enough, so move down to 2nl if you need to.

2nl and 5nl are very similar, maybe abit more aggressive especially 3betting but in my experience when you get to 10nl that's where it got a lot more aggressive.
As already said 30k hands may seem a lot but nearer to 100k would give you a more accurate figure.

Thanks for the replies! Looking at my more closely, I would be break even at 5NL so far if I just always folded to 3-bet, regardless of my cards, big big leak here, I seem to have trouble in that area! My stats are good when I'm the one who 3-bets.
My experience from 6max zoom:
The biggest difference is that funny lines are mostly for value in 5NL than in just for fun. So instead calling, what is right in 2NL, folding comes default line.
To boost win rates light 3betting basics should be learned in 5NL.
Against reasonable players betting 3streets needs some thinking before you choose that line.
Bet size comes relevant both from our side, but more importantly villains have a logic in their bet sizing that comes important part of hand reading.
If winnings are going same rate to one direction (you could post a figure) you don't need too many hands to see if you are winning.
And yes 3bets are mostly for value, remember to use that against them by having some 3bet bluffs.

I was having same kind of problems before when moving up from NL2 to NL5. The games are not that different but than again, they somehow are. There are already some really good regulars that are hard to beat.
But here comes my advice: get rid of that tilt because that is probably the main reason you are losing. If you can beat NL2, you are able to beat NL5 as well. You just need to play your A-game at all times.
Straightforward play works for me in NL5 just like in NL2. Don't get too tricky, don't bluff much, wait for the good hands and then play them aggressively. After all, most of the players are not that good that they would be able to spot that you are playing some hands differently. I mean, I once just folded, folded and folded, and then got a flush or something and I was still able to get someone to call my all-in at the end. Sometimes it is just that easy.
So, don't tilt and pay attention to every hand! Good luck!
