Lets say you have 87.

Is it better to pair the 8 or the 7 on the flop?

Does your answer change if you have JT?

Erm... surely the answer is a great big "it depends"

I'd rather pair my 7 on a 2-3-7 flop than I would pair my 8 on an A-K-8 flop, but I don't know if that proves much :p

I'd rather pair neither and have rainbow 4-5-6 :D

BUT, I would guess I'd rather pair the 8, since you're probably outkicked by someone who thinks they had the nuts PF with a A7/A8 or K7/K8. Now they've paired the board and are more than likely going to take a lot of $$ from you.

I thought this was going to be an ethernet or USB question.

I am not reallly looking for pairs with those cards to be honest. A low pair is danger, I may bet out with a pair and see if everyone folds but I am certainly not getting crazy with them at all.

Low suited connectors are good if you can get in the pot cheap, or if you got plenty of chips, other than that i dont like them,, ive never had any luck with them,,, buck:)

I like to throw in a raise with 87s and up in mid to late position. I play tight enough (VP$IP ~16%) that it's normally just a blind steal but it also mixes it up enough that when I do hit the flop hard I usually get paid.

As for hitting the top or bottom connector for a pair. Who cares either way it's generally a loser hand and you can't really invest many $$ with it.

I'd slightly rather pair the 8. Really, the two situations are almost identical. If you pair the 8, you have a 7 kicker, and there are 6 better kickers. If you pair the 7, you have an 8 kicker, and there are 6 better kickers. The only difference is if you're up against 77. With a pair of 8's and a 7 kicker, you beat 77. With a pair of 7's and an 8 kicker, you lose to 77.
