hey everyone. This is my first post here , I have a pretty general question. I'm thinking about entering a low stakes tourn. at my local poker room. Would you guys say that the competition level is higher online (i.e. - pokerstars) or B&M poker rooms?.

-Another general question (i'm fairly new at playing poker), As an online only player (to this point) is there anything overwhelming advice you guys can give as far as playing online VS in person .

Thanks everyone.

The level of play online is far superior if you compare the same stakes. $1/$2 NL live plays like 0.05/0.10 online.

Live local MTTs play like the absolute lowest level cash mtt's, and generally people have no clue. Live MTTs are basically super turbos for the most part, and people don't adjust one bit. They don't understand M, stack sizes, position etc.

There used to be a lot of local MTTs near me for charity and my brother-in-law and I played them as often as we could. Play nothing but very premium hands early on, and once the blinds get high relative to stack sizes, open up your range of hands and play position and you can literally run over everyone with some well placed aggression.

Thank you for your reply.

Is there any reading you'd recommend to brush up on strategy in regards to tournament strategy ?, or some of those other strategies you mentioned. ?

-I feel like I have the basics down as far as knowing the board and what others have in relation to what will / won't beat me. However, I really need to advance my depth of knowledge if i'm going to become anything more than a marginal player (and I really want to excel at poker - because I truly enjoy it)..

Thank You.

I agree for the most part online is tougher than B & M casinos. However you will occassionally run into the table with a bunch of regulars and that's when you might see the better play.

As far as MTT Stragegy books go.... I dont think you can go wrong with all three volumes of Harrington on Holdem. Good advice for all stages of an MTT.

Goodluck and Welcome to CC
