Hi all I've been thinking for some time about changing from playing tournaments to playing cash tables though I will be playing the occasional tournament now and then, on Thursday I'm putting a deposit down for $50 to kick start my change, I said before that I withdrew due to me moving down south but since I get paid on Thursday I might as well try a one time deposit.

is there any good cash threads on CC at the moment to where I can read? or can you guys give me any hands on tips about playing cash as this is my first time playing cash poker.

Thanks Sinkie

I would just look through a lot of the hand analysis threads.

There is some good advice in there.

Go to the golden archives and look at some peoples threads on cash games and how they structure their play.

In general I think 2nl FR is going to be a good place to just get your feet wet. Play a tight game and you should see results with relatively low risk. Its a great place to learn without risking the amount you would need to risk to play at higher stakes.

Yes, do not play cash game as if it's tournament and do not play tournament style as cash game because you will lose. A lot of players tend to play the same style which doesn't work in the same environment. Try changing up plays and sometimes know when to be aggressive.

^^ Thanks for that advice it will come in handy, I will give the golden archive a look and see what it comes up.

^^ I wouldn't do that anyway, but it's easy if you have a lot of tables up and can sometimes forget lol.

I believe that in general at the low stakes cash tables people are playing it very tightly - because like you they are also starting up. Before you go playing cash games you can try your strength at play money games - try to use all of the strategies against tight players, see how often you can steal blinds and etc. But, don't take my words at face value - join some table as Observer and just watch how the game is played. If you join several tables and keep watching you will see what I am talking about.

well with cash games there is never the risk of being eliminated as you can simply reload so there's that, therefore you can take a lot more perhaps 'profitable risks' ;) , in general it's probably easier to play cash games, just apply the basics, bet for value, chase your draws for the right price, blind stealing isn't necessary for micro cash games obviously, use position to your advantage, just start out playing 2NL playing a TAG style and you should do just fine, plenty of weaker players at that limit and just use your HUD do identify the regs from the fish and you shouldn't have too much trouble adjusting. GOOD LUCK

You pretty much never have 100bb in tournaments, especially online tournaments. It's much easier to play push/fold poker, which is primarily what tournaments devolve into (or 1 street poker). Most beginners tend to play tournaments, and the fields are generally stacked with really weak players (even if you're playing a 5k+ buyin event).

This history of poker has always been, even back to the road gambler days, that the cash game players would go meet up with the tournament winners and take their money in side cash games. This goes on to this day.

Phil hellmuth being a prime example.

The first thing I'd do is read a couple of books about cash game play to get an appreciation for where and how you need to change your thinking from what you're used to in tournaments.

Cash isn't exactly the same as tournaments when the blinds are still tiny, but that's probably the closest situation you're familiar with. So initially at least, you can play in a similar way as you learn more about adapting.

I started to play cashgames instead of tournaments some time ago since i lack the luck to win the first prizes and only double up the buyin amount. Tourneys consume a lot of time. In cashgames I double up easily and I don't get tilt when I lose by a badbeat.
I hate playing for hours and leaving tourneys by badbeats.
I only play freeroll tourneys now.
