Ok well I am pretty happy with the way I played the second one. I feel I had to raise him when he led in to me to see where I was in the hand. He chose to call and when he bet in to me on the turn, I was sure I was beat.

I put him on a set, maybe a better jack or even QQ. Could I have gathered the info and achieved this for less cash?

The first hand I don't know what happened. I don't feel I get caught out by sets anywhere near as often as I used to. I had been 4 tabling 10NL for over 2 hours and lack of focus and tilt may have been creeping in. How do you guys think i played the first hand? I'm guessing not as well as the second! :D

Thanks again people!

Frank.

Yes I agree in the first hand I should have bet a little more though I doubt I would have prived out a low PP.

Adrenalin, I can kind of see your reasoning for not raising the flop on hand 2 but what do you suggest I do instead. I guess folding is out of the question so that just leaves a flat call.

Are you suggesting that I flat call as the PF raiser with TP weak kicker and then float?

Would this be a cheaper way to glean the info that I need to make the good laydown?

Is he really likely to check the turn if I suddenly go weak after the flop?

you played most of it as expected. In hand 1 a bigger than 4x raise is asking a bit much. I'd treat villain's min raise with suspicion on a low flop.
A good rule for the micros is to alwas fold TP to a reraise.
hand 2 I dont see why not to raise TP on the flop with on a 2-tone board.

I would raise the first hand to $1. You already have an UTG raiser and caller that will both have position on you post flop. On such a dry board I don't think I would be getting away from TPTK there.

Second one, I don't think flat calling is bad here, mainly for pot control. We don't exactly have a great hand but SB could be betting his second pair, low pockets. I don't think he would be donking into you with the flush draw...

The point is not necessarily to get him to fold his pp. But by 3betting larger, he'll give you more when his set-mining misses. What matters is that when you play this hand 1000 times, that he hits a set 117 times and misses 883 times, you get out ahead on average.

Yes. It controls the pot size (we don't want to play a big pot with TPNK), and it allows you to gain equity against our opponent's draws that would bet/3-bet this flop as a semi-bluff. Plus, there are a few turn cards we don't mind seeing (Q's, J's, T's, 9's all improve our hand, 3's and 8's make a set less likely).

This is more of a question on hand 2 than a response, but:

by reraising the 2nd hand would you guys say that you would only fold out hands you beat and only get called by hands that beat you?
