I personally have not played live poker before at a Casino however I came across an interesting post online which suggested (if playing relatively low stake cash games) it can be advantageous to go to a Casino at times when people are drunk e.g. a Saturday night and take out the drunk fish.

Has anyone had any success with such a strategy? Are there really that many wasted fish out there?

I believe that this is possible - but not often, and this can not be considered a strategy. It's more like a nice bonus. In general, enjoy the fact that a person is drunk - I think not very good.

I use this strategy where I can, and it does tend to work. I’ll usually attend the casino on a football match day (live in Newcastle) a bank holiday weekend, or other similar ‘event’ times. A lot of money can be earned by targeting drunk fish.

There are days and times that have a higher ratio of weaker (or inebriated) opponents, yes. This will mostly coincide with days/times where people who have jobs are not working, because generally, the more employed somebody is... the less study they have in the game, and the less seriously they take it.

There are also days that might be good to play, such as during big sporting events, certain holidays, etc.

But that being said, you also just need to practice basic table selection. For the most part the days of people just punting in hundreds of big blinds is over - even the weak recreational opponents often know they shouldn't be playing 70% of hands and calling down with any pair to showdown. So you're mostly not going to be able to magically show up and have a whole poker room of tables where that's happening.

So this means picking the best out of your options. Imo play when is best for YOU, for your mental state and well-being. Then pick a good table when you do play, and just focus on playing well and enjoying it.

Live poker is largely a battle with yourself - just as much if not more so than a battle with your opponents. So maximizing your own performance imo is vastly more important than minimizing the skills of the opponents you sit with, but most people don't like working on that cause it's harder than just looking for a table where alcohol is flowing lol.

There's still lots of soft games in Vegas. Venetian, Aria and Wynn have tougher games usually, Mandalay Bay is good game When they have conventions. Flamingo is a pretty soft game. Even at The Aria, on weekends there are tons a fishy tourists but you have to be careful because there are solid regs that sit in these games too since they are so lucrative.

That's just from my experience in Vegas. Can't really comment on other cities because I've been out here for a few years.

Hello.
I have enough negative experience in that regard. Once I lost about $ 70.
True, it was blackjack. After that, I do not play such games.

Certainly playing in Vegas the weekends and late at night/early morning gives increased EV.

Well when I was in Vegas I went to a casino where no one was playing at. The game didn’t last that long and I came in 3rd place lol

I have had some success with this "strategy" but this is not to say it is fool proof. Generally I find just like in any other live cash game, there will be players that you are targeting and trying to isolate. Friday/ Saturday about 11pm seems to be the happy zone for me as far as semi-intoxicated players that have a wide range to isolate against. I dont put to much stake into intoxication levels though, there are a few regs at my home casino that use the "drunk" image to get loose 3bets from opponents, so be careful!

I do use this strategy, but it’s not necessarily to play against drunk players as it is to play against the people who aren’t there often. It’s hard to win any big money against the old guys who play every day, they are way too tight!

It could be a strategy that could work some of the time, sure - but i wouldnt rely on it strictly. I like to go on friday and saturday nights and sit down between 8pm and 9pm when guys have been playing many hours or drinking since they got off work and rolled in there. Taking on tight players who are exhausted gets easier, and players who are just bad in general.

I dont think hoping to enter your local poker room to find it full of drunk fish would be the best outlook - just walk in there at a good time of day when its likely to contain the most fish, walk in confident - knowing you can beat these guys - sit down, and play your A game :) you will be a winner of you work hard enough

I won my biggest amount at cash table when I was drunk. I was totally drunk beyond anything that night. But I did turn $100 into $10,000. Playing $1/$2NL and 14 hours of playing that night 10 hours drinking. LoL.
