Hi there guys
I am on a downswing and want to change to cash games.
I know there are downswings in cash too but can u make a profit
in cash games when on a downswing??

I have played cash before but it is boring to play 0.01/0.02
and i play to much hands. Is there a big dif. between $2nl and $5nl cash??
I find they play very tight in cash games
What strategy's are there for cash games on tight tables where the fish even play tight???
Is cash a flop+ game where tourneys are more pre flop game?

I want to start with $100 bankroll any advice were to start.
What is the best sites to play cash now in april 2013
Any tips and strategy transferring from tourney to cash games?
Thanks alot

with 100$ you are rolled for 5nl.
I've made the switch myself way to many times between cash and tournaments, but I guess you just have to find out what suits you best.

first of all, cash games are indeed more about post-flop play, and pre-flop all-ins are very rare because of the deep stacks, so usually when two people go allin its KK vs AA,
This means you should drop hands like TT/JJ pre-flop in some situations, which is way less common in tournaments.

Second,
Are you looking to play 6max games or full ring?
If you play full-ring it's pretty much the same at these 2nl and 5nl, you have 3 types of players:
1. complete idiots (here's your money ;))
2. (mostly russian) nits that play 20 tables, They are allll over the place, it's really horrible,
This makes micro stakes so damn boring, I've grinded 5nl FR for a really long time and it made me almost quit poker, You'll see these people all over the place, playing 2/2 to 10/10.
3. TAG's. These are very rare and play 14/14 - 20/20. These are the only decent players in these games.

So if you don't like the tight play, don't play FR, it's a nit fest.
I suggest playing 6-max on stars (I prefer stars because of the UI and VIP-program). Playing 6-max you'll learn faster, and it won't turn you into some kind of zombie-nit.

Another option to start out may be Ipoker (altho I hate the software, again, this is a personal preference).
You could play the 5nl HU there, heads-up is definetly the fastest way to learn, and it's pretty fun too,
The rake is killing tho, so making a profit might not be as easy at start, but at the bright side, 99% of the players there are complete idiots.

Good luck!

I play tourneys mostly, but, when there seems to be a downswing, I go and play some cash tables. Usually this will turn the down into upswings. Good luck at the tablesl

hi anthony, if you are in a downswing the best sometimes is not play for a while, do other things, sometimes the best is not think in poker, not play not anything, because with the downswing you can enter on a tilt mode and lost a good amount of your bankroll. If you want push the game and continue to play, play micro levels, or maybe play money just for ensure that your bankroll is safe. Sometimes a break is best. :)

It won't hurt to try your luck on cash games anytime you want to! I just think that you should stick with micro levels first and try it out. Then you can start to go up in levels once you build up your bankroll or at least feel comfortable enough that your downswing is going away.

Tourneys take more time, but as for me... I feel more satisfied winning the tourney then just playing cash ;)

Tournies vs cash eh. Wow. I thought we'd already solved this?

Well, you might get a biased response from a lot of posters in this forum because you've posted this in the cash games section, but I assure you, NOT FROM ME!

Cash is best.

End of discussion.

Cash poker separates the men from the boys. Puts hair on your chest, it does.

I've only read the 2½ words in the topic title and not the posts yet. But yeah, assuming you've got the stones for it then welcome to the world of cash poker. Enjoy your stay. :)

Cash games are a true form of poker, tourneys are not real poker just saying.

Nothing better than a cash game imho, if tourneys pay out was not so top heavy i would consider playing a few. Best of luck!

Thanks for all your advice and will keep that in mind

I love playing tourneys but with downswings its hard to make a profit.
I have notice that in tourneys i do win allot of pots but close to the money
I get unlucky and i make no profit but if it was cash i might make a profit.
Why i ask if you can make a profit in cash??
With downswings in tourney you dont finish in the money enough and can go broke
and sometimes i dont get hands to even steal blinds and in cash games
u can go to another table.

I will look into 6 handed 0.02/0.05 and then move up 0.05/0.10 if i dont go broke
Any advice on 6 handed play or any articles
thanks for the great responses

Me 2 i have won $3 3500 players on pokerstars but go broke in micro
stakes.I just dont understand how cash games are so different but it is i guess
I think the players play so bad that they are so unpredictable and get out numbered
by hand that should fold pre and then get lucky like 34o utg+3

Everything else being equal you can win more money in cash play (tournaments after you ship them make you give back some of the money you win to other players whose chips you own) although everything else isn't equal ofc. These tournies can have some very weak fields.

Alot of bad players are attracted to playing tourneys. They invest their initial buyin with a shot at a decent cash. There are just soooooooo many fish playing in tournaments.

I do think cash games is poker in it's truest form. Longterm I think it's advisable to play cash (if you want to invest the time to learn).

If you're just starting out, I'd recommend playing on 888Poker.... starting out at micro limits & slowly working your way up. Micro cash tables on 888 are just ridiculously loose. I'd also consider starting off at fullring & not 6-max.

Every one knows that FR is a mind numbing nit fest where as 6max is poker heaven :D.

But nits and FR fish are so nice to exploit. And honestly for a newbie the slower pace is welcome.

Made me think of changing to 6max though. Maybe play some 2nl 6max today for starters, gong nowhere at 10nl FR.

Well I'm starting to learn that cash games are where my own survival skills take place and I see actual money in front of me and not just tourney chips. Helps psychologicaly for me to win :)

He's just starting out (I think?). 888 FR micro cash is rowdy, lol... lots of 300+bb pots, players calling preflop 4-bets OOP, etc. (it's alot different than other sites... at least it used to be a couple yrs. ago).
They do limit the number of tables you can play on (not sure if it's 6 or 8 now?) but would be fine for a new player. :p

I find much less variance in cash games. I love MT tournaments and seem to do well, however I can go many tournaments without cashing in. I ten to use ring games to collect money to enter in tournaments. If I win big on a tournament I withdraw the money and spend it (I no I shoundn't)

Hey guys, saw the title to this thread and I figured I have something you may be interested in.

I created a Live Tournament Winrate Calculator that will tell you your theoretical longterm winrate. Here is what the front face looks like

CalculatorFrontFace_zpsa0c1dee2.jpg

You simply input tournament details and your stats (or best guesstimates) and it will spit out tournament duration, when the bubble is reached, pay out averages and lastly your winrate

The spreadsheet is 100% free, no strings attached, I'm just giving back to the poker community. If you'd like to download it off google docs, send me a PM and i'll send you the link. I would post the link in this thread, but I'm new here and I don't want to be accused and banned for spamming.

If I send it to you, feel free to disseminate it. My hope is that it makes waves in the poker community and that people find it very useful.

This looks very useful for those players wishing to optimize there hourly win rate. Helps make the cash/tournament decision easier if you have the stats.

My strategy will be mainly Cash tables... It does improve your game and it really tells you if you can handle pressures of poker or not... Build on your strengths and find out your weaknesses. 6-max is by far is more beneficial to play/easier and the slightly faster action there will help you. *Get yourself in some big hands and learn from it*

Play tournaments after 6months and it'll blow your mind how much easier it is...

If you quickly swap to cash after busting all your tourneys make sure to relax and chill as your end of tourney loose shoving range will be way to loose for cash and ppl may take advantage.

Good advice not as important cash-> tournaments to have a break since starting a MTT is like cash tables to begin with since its deep stacked.
