So, I have some success at tournaments, but in cash games I just spew spew spew...

Everyone else's plays never seem to make sense...sometimes calling down with a pair. Sometimes with air. But when I try that, I'm crushed...

I lose buy-in after buy-in whenever I try to play micro-stakes cash...and not much better live. It just seems so confusing...

Compared to that, a tournament is a beautiful symphony...

How did you get good at cash? I'm trying on ACR and sucking bad.

Please help,

Try this,
Don't play what you can't or aren't willing to lose.
Tighten up your hand selection. And where you play it from.
Read poker books and watch poker teaching videos.
Do NOT get your lessons from high stakes poker.
I think you'll be ok. I've played with you.

Bippity Boppity boo...

..."Your wish is my command" apparently...

After crashing out of a couple tournaments this morning, I fired up the old cash tables and played "differently".

Within 15 mins I had stacked 4 people and had $7.55 on the $2 buy-in table.

So I fired up 5 more tables.

Was up 500BB in about an hour.

Maybe your advice changed something after all!

Now don't go and blow it all when the downswing comes. Because it is coming.

No I haven't. We haven't mixed it up much. Others but not really each other. I was there when you got quad jacks today.
One more minor tip.
If you have to multi table. Keep it to just a few.

One thing I need to remind myself when I switch up from tourneys to cash is to take my time and slow down.

Definitely read or re-read the classics and try signing up to a training site or two... all the good ones offer free content that can be helpful.

Only a few tables? But I just bought another monitor!! ;)

I don't even remember getting quad Jacks today.

I did stack one particular bully for 250+ bb after flopping a full house to his quads. I had $10 after and he immediately left. I know the feeling. Like all the air gets sucked out of your lungs.

I made some bad plays (thanks for the warning!) And lost a bit of the profit but turned off the comp before I could get back to even, thank goodness.

Thanks for the support and great advice everyone. Trying to learn and see how to invest in my education as best and fast I can.

Cash game maniacs vs. tourney players

Have you noticed in rebuy tourneys that during the first few levels when rebuy chips are very high compared to the blinds that there are people who are willing to rebuy and who play like maniacs until they either double or triple up or until the blinds start getting higher? That is what cash games are like, but everyone has that mentality. The mentality is, "If I go out I can just dump more money in so it's worth the risk." It allows people to literally play bad poker simply because the pot is big enough as opposed to me who just plays bad poker for the fun of it. The reason it is so prevalent in cash games is the same reason why it happens in low stakes rebuys. The buy-in "chips" are relatively high compared to the blinds. And since the blinds never go up, they can play this way all the time. I've always wondered if this mindset is profitable over long periods of time. I mean, someone may rebuy 3 times for 100BB each and then stack 500BBs when they hit a set with 23o. So, who knows.

Or maybe they are just there having fun and don't even care about the money. I've seen that too, especially in the local casino. It almost only has 1/3 poker and there are people wanting to play 10/20 who can't, so they sit at the 1/3 tables with $2000 in there pocket just looking to spend it. As opposed to people in a tourney who are almost always there to win it.

So, yeah, be wary of people who seem to play like maniacs in cash games. The one main tip I can give is to never try to bluff them because they really are willing to call down with mid pair.

Thanks again for all the support and commentary!

ACR is the most difficult for cash because of The Beast promo. A lot of bots also since they have low security.

Playing tournaments is very different from playing at the cash tables ... you must use different strategies ... I will tell you that at the cash tables it is very important to have a good reading of your opponents ... normally the players have game patterns at the cash tables and once you start to identify them you can start making better decisions when you are playing against them ..!

The Quad Jacks hand. Ironically, it was 2J's who called my two jacks.

He hit his straight on the river, unfortunately, I hit my Quads on the turn.

This hand boggles my mind. What was this person jamming with actually?

I figured out the one above. He had a straight flush draw...but that is ONE out. So you jam on the flop with ONE out?

WPN cash games are nuts. I question the RNG as many do something seems fishy ! See my newest post under online poker about my question to WPN. Anyways , Bots also add into the factor as very low security is issue on this network. That being said I still like playing here !
