I was playing a live game with friends 9 buy in, 5 were left. I have around the second lowest stack but im close to the third lowest. I would guess i had around 15 or so big blinds left. I'm first to act and my hole cards are Jd10d. I minimum raise it up. 2 fold pre flop. 2 call. There are three people in the hand.

Flop is Jh, 7d, 7s. I bet around 75% of the pot. The 3rd player (small blind) folds. Big blind shoves on me. (2nd highest stack) I call. He lays down pocket queens. My only outs were another Jack, 10, 10. runner runner straight (8,9) or runner runner diamonds. I lose.

Did i just get coolered or was it a bad call? Backstory: My friend (who had the queens) does have a history of bluffing and playing wreckless at times but lately hes been playing pretty careful and i wasnt being pushed around that game at all.

It's not really a bad call, but it's definitely not a cooler..

Your opponent knows you are pretty much committed to the hand anyway (or getting close to), so he can't do this without at least an overpair or a hand like AJ. Nothing wrong with the call, but it is not a cooler. Myself, I would think about folding, but I would mostly call.

Why do you have 15bb in a cash game?

Well I guess its just a ghetto tournament but doesnt feel like it. Yeah, ive been working on taking less risks because I seem to lose alot on calls where im beat and that one really felt bad.

Download an equity calculator. Ace Poker Drills has a good free one.

Enter your hand and the flop. Select ranges for your opponents (don't forget, both of them). You can just use the slider for percentages of VPIP, or custom adjust them. Then calculate your equity on the flop. You won't feel so bad.

A shove in a multiway pot and hitting top pair being Jack.... your toast!!

Remember also JTs OOP... Your going to be placed in a ton of tricky spots being called.... We often won't know wtf we are unless we have strong flush/str draws...

Even 2 pair will often bust us esp if our qq opponent calls us down and the board pairs.

Either shove all in pre being short stacked... That's if its a tourney because suited connectors aren't too bad if the blinds are really high in comparison of the blinds but it's always just a coin flip. even if we are against AK its not too bad cuz we got a good chance to hit still and he misses.

It's a simple fold in reality though pre... and these cards just don't cut it shortstacked and most suited connectors low PP lose their value and ur just gonna end up finishing the tournament.

Ur better off having Kx or Ax In those spots just because those high end cards are very valueable... Even if ppl have PP at least you have an overcard to hit with against most callers....

Anyways best of luck. That's my run down with JTs and shortstack.

JT, I think is a troubled hand. You want that hand to be flush or straight. That goal was stopped by his all-in. Your hand is just top pair at the same time facing an all-in bet.
