General question for the cash game players...

I was originally a straight tournament player. I've been trying to get into cash games a little bit more, and recently have been playing more cash games than tourneys. Anyways, I had been buying into micro tables for 60bbs, and doing well. Instead of moving up to a new level, I decided to buy in at the same level, but for 80 bbs instead. And I experienced a lot less success.

Is that a coincidence? I'm assuming not. Is there positives and negatives for buying in for the maximum (100 bbs) or the minimum, or in between? And what do you guys general prefer buying in for?

What game are you playing? If it's no limit or pot limit, buying in/reloading for the max ensures that you'll have enough chips on the table to really cash in when you finally hit that big hand.

100 blinds is the norm, and I'd advise you try to get used to that (bearing in mind top pair isn't going to be the nuts, etc). A short stack strategy where you buy in for the minimum and really simplify the game, is something you'll see some players do as well. Going in between is kind of the worst of both worlds. You're still going to play 4 streets a lot of the time yet you'll short change yourself whenever you stack another player. Sitting on a stack that's less than full will often get you tagged as a fish, which can perhaps work out to your advantage, and might also save you some money if you're the one who usually ends up getting stacked and you expect to be a losing player for the forseeable future. Other than that, you really don't want to be playing with unusual stack sizes.

I always buy in for the max in order to get the best value out of my monster hands.

I can see how having a shortstack would make it easier to double up on a monster hand though making it easier for others to call etc. . .

IMO more value out of monsters comes with a deeper stack in the end though.

I don't like to buy in for the max. Because you have a higher risk .

the better you are and the bigger your edge the more you should buy in for.

If you are afraid to buy in for 100bbs then you are better to buy in for less bb's or move down in stakes to be able to play a full buyin. Worst thing is to play with scared money, you might as well burn it:rolleyes:
