Scenario, your dealt something like 89s, you call a standard sized bet in late position and you hit the flop big time. Flop gives you 17 outs to make your hand but the problem is you suspect your villain has a big overpair or possibly has a set. He bets 3/4 pot, now then I usually r/r here which I think is pretty standard, but lately Ive been getting pushed all in.... is this an easy call here? Am I playing this type of hand too aggressively. Should I just call the flop bet and see if I hit the turn, then look to fold to further aggression.

How do you guys play this type of hand?

first of all, what's the reasoning for suspecting opponent has a big overpair or set based on a) him raising, and b) him continuation betting into one player. almost no opponent is transparent enough to make that deduction, and if they are, you should be able to take all his money eventually

and if the flop gives you a combo draw with 17 outs, you're ahead of an overpair, not to mention there's already money in the pot to be won. a set is very unlikely probability-wise, and you're not very far behind one at all. i'd raise, call a shove. there are loads of times where he won't have either, so you definitely have fold equity. i repeat, you're ahead of an overpair. in a cash game, +EV is all that matters. there is no tournament survival element unless you're playing beyond your bankroll

plus if you just call, even when you hit the turn, your hand is often transparent and you don't allow yourself to get max value. not to say it absolutely can't be done sometimes to mix up your play, but i without doubt favor raising and calling a shove.

My reason behind it is primarily results driven. I think I have had this scenario on 6 occasions in the last couple of days and I haven't hit one yet. Each time villain has had big overpair or set or 2-pr so was always going to felt it. I was just thinking out loud really. I know I'm a fav on the flop over most holdings, I'm just wondering wether there's a better way to play it or if you play them any differently than I do.

Combo draw = lots of equity = get a lot of chips in the pot while you're ahead (AI on flop, not after turn hits a blank)
