Hey Guys

Just want to start by saying that I am new to this forum, so I apologies if similar posts already exist. I am a UK based player trying to gain some insight into making a profit at online cash games.

So I have been playing poker online for years now, but mainly only for leisure proposes. I have actually had some big cashes during my poker life, but obviously with the x amount of times I have played I would expect to cash out every once in a while.

I have a few friends who play "SNGS" professionally and they make a pretty decent living from them. however, after trying over a hundred odd games I just don't feel as if SNGS are for me. Obviously I was not expecting to profit with little knowledge, but I just don't like the way they are played.

So I have been trying to get a feel for cash games and I enjoy them more. Feel as if it would be easier to make a profit from these than sngs (although I am sure others will say different)

Anyway I was wondering if anyone could let me know any information that would help me with my game. I obviously have a good understanding of pot odds hands etc, but any books, articles, videos, software that helped you when you were first starting?

Thank you

If you give us some ideas of your goals, bankroll, and limits that might help to get more specific answers. Everyone is in a different situation, so some paths may be better suited to your personal plans.

I think 'The Theory of Poker' by David Sklansky is a good to read. It is an older book but the concepts in there are really critical to how good players approach the game.

'No Limit Holdem' by Ed Miller and David Sklansky is also a pretty good book.

I will have to think about some others.

If you go to The Golden Archive on this forum you will find a thread by F Paulson onblog links to poker strategy.

All of his posts are good and those strategy posts are a great place to learn.

Also, Professional No Limit Hold 'Em, Volume 1 is a good read too.

Hey guys thanks very much for the advice so far. I am going to deposit 100 bucks onto a site and receive a 100percent bonus. So with regards to bankroll il be looking at 100/200 dollars after the bonus has been activated. So obviously I will be sticking to small stakes. 1c/2c or 2c/5c just until I get the feel of it. With regards to goals I haven't set any yet. Don't really want to set goals until I have a decent understanding of what I am doing. Also I withdrewy money from stars the other day, what sites do you play on. Stars and tilt are obviously the two biggest, it do you recommend others for cash games

Get as much good free content as you can. I'll plug my book below. Hyper focus on getting a good pre-flop strategy down first because a lot of people carry bad/poor pre-flop habits into higher stakes and don't know why they can't move beyond a certain stake level. It's as simple as the correct fold, open or 3-bet in the right spots, but it blocks people from being profitable. Once you get that down, learn how to play the turn, and you'll be ok.
