Care and feeding of fish?

Do you guys put much thought into managing fish?

I met my first clear cut fish last night at a .02/.05 table. He played almost every hand, called almost all preflop raises, bet out of position, called almost everything in position, reraised on the river with second high pair, etc. And rebought for the table maximum after going broke once (at least once that I saw).

I made him broke a second time w/ATs, that flopped an ace, another ace on the turn, 10 on the river.

Later I had second thoughts about my river play though, as I pushed at that time. The whole hand I was trying to draw him down without scaring him off, but maybe I should have minibet the river, thereby allowing him to reraise me so he'd feel better and rebuy again. As it was, he left after that hand.

What is the psychology of this type of fish? How do you encourage them to stay around? I guess you could say things like "I got lucky" when you beat him, or "nh" when he does win a hand.

you never know, sometimes they sit with a certain amount to lose or all thats in there accout. other times you'd be right. I wouldn't sweat it and throw the hook back out

Mark the fish in your favourites and look for them every time you sign on. As for taking their money, if you don't take it, someone else at your table will.

Just be friendly and chat to them, make them feel at home, and fell that they couldn't lose to a nicer guy! That's when I've lost most money, when the table is really friendly. And I'm having fun so I don't mind until I look at my stats much later on!

Yeah, this is why verbal abuse doesn't make much sense to me, especially if someone really is a bad player. Don't tap on the aquarium, you might scare the fish away.

Funny thing about this is most of the time the person berating the fish usually made the mistake by either not betting enough PF or giving odds to call (whether the fish was playing right or not). I then explain that fish was right to make the call and they start being a bit nicer or they are completely dumb and start abusing me, then I continue to pick their plays apart until they tilt, but that's a different thread.

Call me mean but I usually pick, hook, reel-in the fishes and then proceed to fillet them until they leave, no mister nice guy here.
It's my way of teaching them the finer points of poker without saying a word, and if they don't get the message I follow them around until they do and sometimes tell them about the forum when I start feeling sorry for them and their bad play.
I sat down at one table and saw this one player losing hand after hand and told him about CC and he said he didn't need to learn anything more and I left it at that.
If your a fish, I'm a shark and I'll rip you apart is my mentality at times.

I love it when they get in a state like that. While they are raging at me and blaming me for their loss, it`s obvious they are not thinking about their error and are quite likely to do it again. I`ll put them on my buddy list for another day.

Funniest part is the thought that my polite reply probably made him even more mad than if I`d cursed him back. I bet he was chewing the carpet.


Reminds me of a time, a few years back now, when I was managing a retail store. Security caught a customer trying to leave the store with goods he hadn`t paid for. We took the goods back, and I told the guy that he was banned, and must leave the store and never come back.

He got all menacing and said to me, "What time do you get off work ? I`ll see you later."

I politely replied, "It`s kind of you to offer, but you`re not really my type. Have you considered getting a girl ?"

Yea, your polite reply after his terets outbreak, was just priceless. I should do that more often. But most people don't cuss me out on a poker table, live or online.

And to your other story, oh gosh, well, did he stick around? Or did you sneak out the back door? JK. I think.

Neither. You`ve nothing to fear from a person who talks big about what he`s going to do later. If he doesn`t have a go while his blood is up, he certainly won`t after he`s cooled off and thought about it.

Besides, even the dumbest gorilla can usually figure out that a man who is cool and confident enough to crack a joke in a dangerous situation is not someone who is going to be intimidated, and probably not someone you want to be tangling with.

I put a fellow out of a $10 SnG early at bodog couple of weeks ago and he lost his mind. He stuck around and berated me the rest of the tournament. He cussed me up and down threatened bodily harm and worse. I called customer service at Bodog while the tournament was still going on and I haven't seen him since.

By the way, he was using the real words without stars or anything. All the 4 letter words and more. One of the other players asked him how he did that and he said he had the code or something. Anyone know what he meant?

the bodog 12$ 6handed sit and goes are the best. usually dont get to much trash talking. also havent run into too many sharks.
