Has anybody ever go through a period where you just feel that you are going to get crappy cards? Sometimes I go through this and my gut feelings are usually right. Well if so, what do you do about it? Keep playing? Drop down? Play loose? tight?Quit?.:icon_scra

I take a day or too off from poker, you can only win if your confident, and if you think all cards will suck then you wont be confident. I took a few days off then won 3 out of 3 SnG's I played, so not too bad.

Go play through the streak at a multiple table site, FT, PS, Party on play tables. Dont waste your money going through the streak losing.

Personally I think I have got less than average cards for the last year, which at some point MIGHT SUGGEST I get better than average cards for a year.

When I am not happy with the way the cards seem to be coming, I first have to convince myself whether it is the cards being dead to me, or is it the way I am playing them. Blasting thru the play money donkaments has tended to prove it one way or another.

Only this week have I seen a change. Either I have incorporated a ton of info, mostly from here, or the cards have changed. Still a bit too early to tell, but I did have my first streak of 'happyness playing poker' for 3 straight days ever.

But then, what do I know, I only got this expert member thingy cause the computer gliched.....

when someone is card dead you have to change the way your playing, if you dont get good cards you have to adjust and play the bad cards to your advantage,, it can be done, i think FP wrote an article on it,

well, let me say something else before someone says I don't care if i win or lose. I do care about becoming a better player! i've been reading lots of posts on hand analysis and the articles since i have been here (trying to get better) and in watching the videos that Chris comentates i "think" i have become a little better at it. My BIG problem is not being able to raise preflop or reraise when i need to. I guess i need to get some "balls" somewhere. i have to admit one more thing....... or should i???......ok here goes, i do feel a little intimidated when i play you guys from cc, only because yall are so good! :) I watch you play in ring games and at our tourneys all the time and wonder if i'll ever get to be at least half as good as some of you. So, if i ever get that darn all-access visa i will be playing alot more with you guys and i expect to get alittle better at not being so intimidated! ;) I didn't mean to get so off the thread topic but i had to say that before anyone thought i didn't care about losing because i do! Very much so!!! But, i am glad that i do have the ability to just laugh and go on because i think it is very important not to get mad. it is poker you know.:D:D:D

I know you play for money & fun too, but you got the rite attitude, just like me, win or lose i just smile and go on and laugh about it, no sense in getting mad, it dont do no good, So Momm keep thinking that way, if you get mad you`ll go on tilt,,, buck:cool:

I play tight for a while and then I will change gears and loosen up to represent big hands. I keep changing it up until I flop the right hand against the right player who may double me through.

depends on coicumstance...

if it's early, or you've established an image and you have at least an average stack you can play your position instead of your cards... but that only works until it doesn't.

then you sit tight and play all-in/fold before you blind out.

Maybe try some cash games where there's only a couple players from CC there? That's what I've done and found they're mostly kinda normal, almost human. At least so far :)

And another thing that's helped me a bit is to sometimes think in terms of protecting my hand. If I get AK or JJ I raise because I've got to protect my hand from someone who has limped or is thinking of limping with T8s. And when I continuation bet when I've missed the flop (another tough one), sometimes I tell myself act as if I have QQ or KK. Conversely if I have AA or KK sometimes I'll tell myself I have AK and bet accordingly.

I've got a long ways to go, but those things have helped me.

And to kenny, I usually take a break, or tighten up if it's a shorter term thing.

Take a Break

I always take a break for a day or so when i go on a bad streak. For you, you just have to think it out for a bit but don't let us decide for you. GL on the tbls when you return.

As soon as you get your money sorted out we will play some low NL games and work on that stuff. You come from the same background as me - playing limit sng's with average players for so long did us no good at all. Some of the things you struggle with are starting to work for me a little - so we will break you in gently lol.

Advice for Bad Cards

My best advice is that what I do is take some time off do some other stuff not poker related and then come back, in a day or two.

I have never taken more than 3 days off from anything poker, that mean I at least read a poker magazine of some sort or watched a poker program on TV.

When i say take off from Poker, I mean take out no conversation or nothing if you can help that part. It's hjard when you are in a relaxed mood not to talk about poker.

Crappy cards isn't much of problem - I never lose with crappy cards...
I lose with good cards and shaky flops.

However, if I have such a feeling - I try to sit on lower table. (And I finish up, if I play better than my opponents)

SST's

I'm finding that I'm doing better in SST's lately when I get nothing but crap hands. I build up a super-tight image in the first 3 or 4 rounds. It's not deliberate, I'm just not getting anything worth playing. I just make 2 or 3 steals when first-in preflop in that period.
You'd be surprised how many people at the table are paying attention. Your steals and raises get huge respect, even by the looser players. I've found that as the blinds are getting big, if you just play the occasional hand really aggressively, from decent position and against the bigger stacks, you can build up a lot of chips.
My only experience is in $5 and $10 SST's, so I don't know if it would work at higher buyins. I don't know how well it would work in ring games either as the key is the rising blinds.
If you pick your spots well you can get into the money without ever having to show down a hand.
