I started playing on Indian poker sites about 8 months back. By the 6th month, I was easily cruising through. Now I have suddenly started to lose. I am constantly reading and working on my game. Shouldn't I be seeing better results than what I achieved before?

There is a lot of variance in poker. This mean, that people, who are actually long term losing players, can experience long winning streaks, if they run hot. And it also mean, that people, who are long term winning players, can experience long losing streaks. Its common to believe, that you can only get lucky or unlucky for a session or two, but variance exist over samples of 10.000s or even 100.000s hands.

There is also something called tilt, which for many players set in, when they lose. It start with a few bad beats and coolers, but then tilted mistakes start to creep into our game as well. We kind of know, we are beat, but we so much want to win, that we make a bad call, or we ship it all in ourselfes.

Can't rely on experience and learning..

Having been on a good run of play, you were up. Now, you are on a losing streak, despite doing all the correct things.

Have to factor variance into any poker experience, situation.

It may be a cop-out answer, but we've all had bad runs along the way. The more you play, the less variance will affect your overall game, outlook. Same goes for the short-term. You will have runs where variance is on your side, and and equal amount of bad runs.

Be patient, in your play, and you attitude towards poker. To avoid tilting, you must keep your balance, that poker is only a game, with variance that nobody can control.

Absolutly true. Its easy to feel entitlement to win, if you have been winning for a while, and you think you are better than at least some of the other players. But at the end of the day poker is gambling. With a skill element, sure, but its still gambling. So losing is natural, and YOU losing is also natural. Therefore we should always be greatfull, when we win, and not take it to heavy, when we lose.

Hello.
I think it is a bad idea to play Indian sites. It is better to play poker on sites with a good reputation. This way you can get a good experience to improve your skills.

No real info to work on here..

There is a section for cash games hand analysis specifically so you should give it a try and post some of your winning and losing hands so that we may give reasonable advice.

Welcome to Cardschat! :)

There's many different factors that can affect the difficulty of a player pool on any given site. If you changed sites you're playing on, that could definitely affect your win rate.

Also depending on your sample size it might just be standard variance that you just have to play through.

If you have any type of hand history go through and have a look to make sure you're playing spots well and you can't do much else if they cards are against you on a given day.

often times after going on a bad streak for a week or 2 your mind starts playing tricks with you and you feel like your doing something wrong and that makes you play too tight and just worse overall. try taking a week or 2 off. that always helps me.
