Hello everybody :) ,

I´m still an absolute beginner in the Cash-Games at NL2.
I´m still trying to get a solid, routine-based play, you know, which hands to play from which position and so on.

In read that C-betting is an absolute EV+ play, but still I´m confused.

I only played like 20 hours 4-tabling I guess (After many hours one- and two-tabling :) ), but it seems to me that c-betting only works against the players that are multitabling and/or very tight.
C-betting and/or semi-bluffs do not work at all against most players (at least thats what I have experienced so far).

If a tight player calls your c-bet, you know it´s mostly time to check/fold on the turn (at least I think this is advised for beginners like me), if you do not hit big on the turn. If the tight villain folds = good (that happens quite often)!
But if a more or less loose player calls my c-bet (which happens 90% of the time I guess), I´m never even half sure what cards he might be playing, I´ve seen anything from AK to J3o on a AQ2-board for example...or they hold on to pocket 4´s on a AK9 5 T board.

so I´ve come to the conclusion, that if I play against one loose or unknown player on the flop, and I didn´t hit the flop and don´t hold top-pocket-pair, it´s better to just check/fold, if I´m OOP.

Is that in any way correct or am I wrong?

Opinions/advises?

my advice to you ,go with the micro limits, there is a game where bluffing is not worth a lot of fish from which they do not know what to expect

First post guys,
I have to say that I agree with the OP. I even find that this happens in a 1/3 live game that I play on the weekend that usually has a lot of passive fish. There will be so many times when you open up the pot with a raise and then get flatted by 4-5 people. I think it's better to only bet/c-bet here with a fairly decent hand that has the opportunity to improve or is already made. 2NL is going to be an extreme example of this, as the players are most likely going to have no idea what a continuation bet even is. So in small stakes like this I think you should disregard what some say about how, "c-betting is always +ev"...when you're playing games as soft as these just bet you have it and get max value, and check/fold when you don't.

Great advise everyone.. I don't cbet often but reading these threads the last couple of days has my game stronger.. I tried c-betting pre-flop as the aggressor and lost money on the micro 1-2nl table... even the micro tourneys have the same amount of call anything donks. At the micro level, I only cbet or raise when I have strong position with value hands. Once I've worked the table with good wins I then loosen up some and play some mid range hands in good position.. This has been profitable and allowed me to increase gain confidence after a long bad run.. Im not sure if Im using all of the correct terminology but it works.. I'm on this site to learn so thanks to everyone who contributes

c-bets work best against 1 or 2 players. They work better in position. Out of position, you should have a good hand, so it is ok to get called more. There are some good posts here about good and bad c-bet spots.

Cbetting is a profitable play but not in all scenarios.

Try to not cbet boards that smash villians range such as Jc10c6d boards. Unless of course you have KQ or something yourself.

Try not to cbet into 2 or more villians. Not often atleast, mayne 50% of the time. If you have a hand like AcKc and flop comes ten high and all red, checking is not a bad option. Cbetting is pretty known amd gets floated/played back at alot these days so try to do so when you have some equity going forward. Just make sure you are not cbetting on auto pilot on 90% of flops where you are the aggressor.

I also reccomend picking up Blackrains crushing the microstakes, it has a great(if not the best for begginers) section on Cbetting. There is also a good seminar by Jungleman that covers cbetting floating around on youtube. I would linknit myself but I am on my phone. Good luck!
