Hey guys, I recently took a break from poker (really got better, turned my 25$ into 175 and cashed out, as I'm a broke college student ;)). When I deposited next time (75$) into pokerstars, their buy ins changed to 20-50 and so on. I've been playing for about 2.5 weeks now and have raised my BR to 700$, for the first time following strict BRM. The buy ins I've been playing have been the lowest amount, as I kind of assumed more fish and bad players will be buying into the bb tables, however, now that my BR is high enough to start playing 25NL with 100bb, is it more profitable to be doing so, o are the better players playing the higher buy ins?

Thoughts, comments?

If your br is big enough, take a few stabs at the higher level. If it doesn't work out, just drop back down in stakes. Yes there will be better players at higher stakes, but there will also be fish with more money in front of them than the lower stakes.

There is absolutely no good reason to buy in for less than 100bbs.

Buying in short doesn't reduce variance, it will however reduce your winrate.

BRM refers to maximum buy ins.

Buying in short even increases your varience since your pushing much smaller edges and it also reduces your winrate so really there is no good reason not to buy in full(unless you 24table and buy in for 20BB and are a rakeback whore but then your a piece of shit shortstacker so it isnt worth it).

Well done.
Keep playing those micro tournaments, whatever you're playing.
If you can make profit with them, keep going. ;)

I worded this wrong I think, what I'm trying to say is that I am playing the games with the lowest maximum buy ins which is 20-50 bbs, instead of playing the 40-100bbs. I'm simply asking if these games are easier (20-50bbs) than the 100bbs because more fish will play them? I understand at these stakes that there are so many fish that play it doesnt matter too much, but as you go higher in stakes, does it matter? or should I go to the 100bb games and buy in there?

Play the games with 40-100bb buy ins. The result is the same regardless of whether it's a forced short buy in or not; play becomes more mechanical/easy and you pay more rake relative to the pots you win (you still reach the rake cap but can't win as big pots). The small pot size you can win also reduces your winrate, even ignoring rake. You also have to play for stacks much lighter, so your variance goes up.

The short buy in tables are going to have more fish, but there's more money to be made on the 100bb tables.

Play as deep as you can, if you have difficulty playing deeper than 100bb then don't but you shouldn't be playing any shorter.

Makes sense, thanks for that. I never considered to add rake into the equation.

Personally me if you had the time for it i would invest about 30% in low buyin Guaranteed Turneys. You might be there for 4 hours atleast, but the payouts are wonderful.

My first depost on FTP i lost a lot because of the low cash games. havent been back to them for a long time.

the 25nl games are as soft as the 10nl games.
buy in with what your comfortable with.
if your bankroll is 700$ you only have 28 buy-ins however.
if you play 2 tables at once you have 14 buy-ins.
this is a very to extemely low amount of buy-in for whatever level you wish to play at.
if it were me id stay at 10nl and try to continue to build my roll.
