Hi CardsChat people!
I was introduced to poker in 2012 at a home game setting, where we played for $0.25/50. I had to sit there with a hand chart to see if I had anything good lol. I quickly found some bigger games in NYC and played regularly for a couple of years. When I moved to LA, I began playing in the casinos - Bicycle, Hawaiian Gardens, Hustler & Hollywood Park.

I am pretty good at tournaments, but I suck at cash games. I can build my stack pretty quickly, but then I sit there and get loose, playing all sorts of stupid cards until I lose all my chips. I call down to often with the second best (or worse) hand. It's ridiculous. I wish I could just get up and leave when I have 2 x's my original buy-in.

Anyone else have trouble walking away from a cash game when you're up?

Thanks

Welcome, it's the same for me... I get profit playing tourneys than cash games, I get some profit in early game playing cash but If I sit there long time I lose... don't know why it's happening every time

Welcome to this great forum rocketbox

I had similar issues , so I just focused on playing tournaments , rather than wasting bankroll on cash games . Its not that hard , but discipline is the key ! ;)

I wish you all the best and hope to see you @ tables

for games games games too I think it is very difficult to achieve significant gains in the long term.j'y play only for fun.I prefer tournaments, however to win it is necessary to be motivated and especially Extremely patient because I consider that it is the key to have a chance to reach the final table of a tournament. It often happens that I throw pairs JJ or QQ preflop at the end of tournaments not to deviate from my goal.

Just play solid from time u enter the game till you leave it, play as you are not up or down money at all times, dont play loose coz "i can gamble here im winning anyways" treat those spots as u wouild if u were even or losing and u will be fine if ur doing good before u start making profit, or just cash out once u made decent profit and go to sleep or get some rest and continue later on a different table or something :)

Never walk away from a table when you are winning. This idea of leaving once you've won a set amount is ridiculous.

I completely agree with this... especially if the table participants hasn't changed. Once you identify a weak player that you can take advantage of you should exploit it as much as you can.

It's quick easy money. The key is getting enough time against them so you get enough opportunities.

On the other side it makes sense to leave the table, if you just stacked the main "target", and this resulted in him leaving, as it often does.

I know this feeling, and the rush of winning can be one that's hard to step away from. The tournament mentality also encourages this mindset as it's all about the rush.

I learned to implement some questions and rules to help me know when to quit.

Questions
1) is the game good?
2) am i playing good?
3) am i running good?

Rules
1) when tired... tend to quit
2) when hungry... tend to quit
3) when angry... definitely quit

By following those rules rather than basing my decisions on how much I'm up or down I tend to put in more hours in the best games while not overdoing it in suboptimal games.

Hope that helps!

Once you get good at cash Games, it can definitely be the most consistent way to build a bankroll since variance is a lot lower than in Tournaments and SNGs

The different environmental between cash game and tournaments still a mystery for me. I consider myself better ins cash game rather than tournaments. I always got stuck when blinds go up faster and cash games for me is more about be patient.
