Its been a torrid day on the tables for me so ive come begging for advice! In 4 out of 5 SnG's ive played so far ive been knocked out on the bubble, and theres nothing more frustrating! The problems im having are:

  • Not getting paid on any hands i get. No joke every time a get a PP above 9's, AK, AQ or any good hands action folds around to me immediantly!
  • Getting eaten by the blinds and not winning pots
  • Getting called on my All in moves with marginal hands (i.e. pushing with AK when the blinds have eaten me up quite alot and getting called by A5 only for him to hit trip 5's)
So does anyone have any advice on bubble play?

Thanks!

Play in such an aggressive manner that you will sometimes go out 4 of 5 times. Because the way most prize structures are set up, two wins is better than five thirds.

you seem to be playing too tight and your opponents are noticing. but sometimes, it's just not your day.

cold run

I had a bad run of sngs finishing on the bubble a lot and even getting knocked out in early levels. I'm back on track now though so maybe you are having a similar bad run.

Post some of your hands that you played on the bubble.
I play generally tight if i have a large stack. Dont bother even stealing unless everyone is playing super tight.
If you have a middle size stack you just have to pick your best spot to get your chips in.
If your the small stack you have to push a lot and try to chip up.

If the blinds are high dont steal if you are going to pot commit yourself with hands that could be dominated. Usually your only move should be a shove and you want to shove with the best of it. Shove a hand that if you are called you are probably a favourite. The bubble should be played TIGHT. Usually the person with the least patience will bubble by stealing with a bad hand and getting caught.

If you want to improve this part of your game i recommend playin 6hd turbos. You can get to the bubble almost everytime and gain a lot of experience of bubble play. These helped me get a feel for when to steal/shove/call off.

ooh aah CANTONA!!!

this is very good advice. players play too loose aggressive and careless near the bubble thinking they can steal every pot. i tried this many times and failed to even make the money. it's like watching a comedy show when the stealers get caught. i once so this monster chip leader take a nose dive playing junk cards near the bubble and eventually getting knocked out before the money. players should play tight near the bubble to at least make some profit before trying something crazy.

..........but if you want to win it all you have to play the opposite =)

pick your spots... if they all fold when you raise with a hand, try raising when you dont have a hand on the button or SB. as for getting beat AK to A5 thats just poker.. nothing suprises me at all anymore..
