I only play tournaments because I seem to suck at cash games. I want to try and change that. I want to take a hundred dollars of my bankroll and dive in. My question is what stakes do I need to play to get a read if I can keep my head above water.

I'm not a great player by any means, I only play micro tournaments and freerolls. I never make deposits. Thanks

Try starting at the smallest stakes and seeing how you do working your way up as your BR grows.

You want to have 15-20 max buy ins for the limit that you want to play. $100 =$5NL If you go below that you are supposed to drop to a lower limit.

20 BI is usually sufficient. But you said you don't have much experience and you're trying to learn, so I'd start with 2NL (.01/.02) as variance is sure to be higher.

Ive been playing $200 cash games successfully for three years. You want to always have 20 stacks while climbing. So if you have $100 then you should play the $5 games. If you get that to $2000 then step upto the $100 games.
But first, read my 2 second thread on how to play poker.
