bluff is also very important in poker. On the one hand everything should be done to make your opponents never be able to read your cards or guess your intentions during the game. But, of course, the idea of "bluff for bluff sake" shouldn't become the major one for you. You should try to make your opponents believe that you really have a winning hand and make them fold due to your bluff.
You should bluff at the particular moment of the game to bluff successfully. If nobody folded while you were bluffing it means your bluff didn't go, it's more likely that your opponents did have a winning hand. Successful bluffing takes you closer to the poker elite.

Never forget of the pot amount. In case the pot is small the players might fold and on the contrary if the pot is huge it's less likely the player will fold. Don't bluff with a loose player. He won't fold and you lose your money. Tight players tend to fold. But be careful if this kind of player calls you he might more than likely have a winning hand.

P.S. Info I downloaded from Boss-Poker web site

Thanks Sherm good post and well given advise on bluffing. I to have the tendency to just check and then lower the boom after they raise and think they've got it.

it should be said that bluffing stone-cold is foolish. YOu should almost ALWAYS bluff with a way to win the pot...except on the river, when if you stonebluff, and raised, you can throw away the cards w/o losing any more money. Semi-bluffing is VERY good...like raising on a flush draw etc.

This is an extremely important factor on the size of your bluff. Pot size, much like position is a pivotal aspect that all players need to consider before making a move. For instance, if you decide to bluff a large pot, you had better make sure your bet is substantial enough to make your opponents odds for calling be miniscule. If you are trying to take down the pot, a minimum bet will most definitely NOT work.

Good post, Shermie. :)

I hate bluffing. i was trying to bluff today and the guy kept calling me and he sucked all my money out because he had a full house and i had 39 offsuit. see proof that it never works.

It's an important aspect of the game that one needs to practice and fine tune in order to be a good "all-around" player. It's always a little scary, but the more you pactice, the better you'll get at picking your spots. It shouldn't be your whole game plan, mind you, but definitely something to throw out there every now and then.

Yeah you really need to pick your spots and have a decent read on your opponets. When somebody is playing like they have top pair while you have nothing but there is either a staright/flush draw on the board just smooth call and if the draw comes through perfect opp to bluff.

Bluffing should only be a small part of your game .....semi bluffing is better...never bluff a callin station......never bluff a player who always slow playes his big hands.....bluff becomes more important on final table and the blinds a getting high.
