Hi guys,

I've been breaking my head about poker over how much to bet for value against a fish or a tag. As i would love a discussion on the subject i'll make this thread easy tot quote and to give feedback to get a lot of comments. Please add your regular stake on the bottom of your post so we may get an overview about differences between stakes.

We play in position and always pfr

VS a fish

You have TPTK on a dry board :check or how much %pot
Tptk on a wet board : check or how much % pot
Fish donks the pot : call or raise

VS a regular

You have TPTK on a dry board :check or how much %pot
Tptk on a wet board : check or how much % pot
Reg donks the pot : call or raise

We play in position with a drawing hand (to nut straight or nut flush)
VS a fish
We have a FD (2suits board) : %pot
We have a SD ( open-ended) check or ℅pot
We have a FD AND a SD: %pot

VS a regular
We have a FD (2suits board) : %pot
We have a SD ( open-ended) check or ℅pot
We have a FD AND a SD: %pot

And i'll leave it here for the moment. We can discuss OOP, turn & river + 2pair/sets/overpair later:) don't forget to add your regular stakes !

Spoiler alert:
For the Players who read between the lines, how much do you bet against regs to keep them in the pot or do you bet high enough to take down the pot ? Do you vjeck TPTK to induce a bet on the turn on a dry board ?
Do you bet high against fish to let them make big mistakes or bet for thin value all the way tot the river ? And how do you end here ?:)

Looking forward to your comments!

Sincerely

Greedisgood

There is no definitive answer for any of the above scenarios. Poker is a situational game that depends on many factors. If you are having trouble with sizing and such, try posting hand histories in the hand analysis sub-forum, and remember to include all details - position, stack sizes, exact cards on board and in your hand, any reads, player styles, exact bet sizing, etc. Getting feedback on specific hands will help infinitely more than asking for advice on generic situations.

I disagree mr sandbag, alltough i do think my question is too complex.

As regs use standard betting patterns and can`t focus on one table (when playing 10+)
I thought it could be lucrative to spot these patterns.. As we don't get the right pot odds against his style of play ?

sand is correct, reg implies regular which implies decent, its overly simplistic to imply static ranges on boards, let alone on hand strengths in absence of textures

You're assuming all regs and all fish play similarly. And that's not even close to the truth. Again, poker is situational and many factors affect how someone plays.

my assumption was that regs who play 10+tables can't think too long about every action they do and so fall back on standarized patterns. But I get your point and I must agree, there is no point.

Really complex question.
here is an attempt to answer:

Callers; Non believing sort - 3/4-1.5 x pot + . = Challenge their macho!
Callers; timid type - Around 1/2 to 2/3 pot. = Slowly boil the pot
Draw chasers - 3/4 to 1.5 x pot +, = Make 'em pay
Trappers - 1/2 to 3/4 pot. = Pot control
Maniacs - 3/4 to 1.5 x pot + , or check. = Induce that raise!
Good ish Players - 2/3 - 3/4 pot, more if I have added equity from draws, big hands, or "he plays fit or fold"
If I respect some ones game I will use the 3/4 pot bet most of the time, but I like to mix up bet sizes with the occasional weak or over bets. (usually as a set up. to induce further action or folds)
