$100 NL table, your on the button. 50c/$1 blinds.

Everyone has an equal stack of $100 and you have no reads. 5 limpers, dont assume your raise will get called. In the last thread we found that 10 10 was the hand that is the cutoff we feel that is apt for playing for big pair value. Dont whinge about it, ye picked it :p

You look down at :10s4: :10c4: , action is on you.

Please explain your actions

How do we size this bet, there is currently $6.50 in the pot.

Well I replied inthe last thread that my cutoff for raises is JJ. So I would limp in here. However seeing as how that wasn't one of my options, if I was going to raise this hand I would likely go 4 BB. Usually thats enough to scare away marginal hands and should bring you up against 1-2 other players at most.

We have to raise enough not to give good odds to any caller; a pot-sized bet will do the job well. Yes, it's oversized compared to a normal bet, but there are just so many limpers that if you raise a standard 3 or 4BBs, then you're bound to get calls from people sneaking in with QJ or A9s etc. That would be more of a "please call me!" pot-sweetener than an isolation bet.

If you raise to say $4 and it gets folded back to the first limper, he'll be getting 3.5:1 to call; good enough for any two. Raise it to $6.50 and you're only giving him ~2.4:1 - I think that's enough to scare off any marginal hands with 2 overs that you don't want hanging around.

Thats fine, size your bet for JJ so, or whatever you voted for in the last poll, i put in 10 10 as the cut off hand where we start raising for big pair value, in a slightly sticky situation. And for simplicity :)

Standard raise would be 3-4 BB plus 1BB for each limper. That puts us at a minimum of 8BB here. I'm not exactly sure I am betting that much here in this scenario. Limping this hand from the button would be my play.

Edit: I would need to be holding QQ at a minimum to raise this to 8BB with 5 limpers ahead of me.

YOU CANT LIMP !!!!!!!!

Is my call and button broken?? :p None of my answers are available, so I added what I would do and what I would need to hold to raise in this situation. That's no good?

No standard 3-4BB + 1 BB for each limper option? That'd be 8 or 9 BBs. I think 10 is too much, and pot-sized slightly less than optimal IMO. I'd raise to $8.

Thats what I did, I would still go with 4BB with JJ.

I'd pot it because of the excellent position I have. It should at least narrow it down to 1 or 2 callers if not take the pot down. Of course when the Flop comes A K K and I get raised I fold and tell myself "stupid, I just can't get no respect"....

I like to raise slightly more than pot when there are limpers in front. Especially if there are multiple limpers - one calls, then the others start getting good odds to call if you don't make a big raise.

A pot raise here would be $7.50 (total $8.50) so I'd bump it up to about $10.

With so many limpers, I tend to do a pot size raise to drive out the limpers.

Bet the pot. If u get reraised u r out, if u get called u got to watch out!!! I`f I was called I would be looking out for the obvious - overcards and 678or9 on flop giving underpair trips.

I think I would be raising to get them out, so with a caller I would be cautious on the flop (unless a 10 hit)

I've recently been reading HOH vol.1, and Dan recommends a 5-6x bet here, too much to encourage action and should win the pot, especially this early. I'm voting with Mr Harrington.
