Analyzing my own game at $0.01 / $0.02, one of the leaks I see that should be easy to control, is I look at bets as a cash value instead of as just bbs, or a portion of my stack.

At times I find myself calling low bets or raises thinking "It's only a few pennies". I need to train myself to look at it as "It's 5 bbs, or 5% of my stack" instead of "Ahhhh hell, it's only a dime".

I feel that Micros are the place to learn the game, and it's just one of the things I need to learn and pay attention to better, which hopefully will lead to better and smarter play and stack management at higher levels.

Your thoughts?

Jamie

This is a good idea. It is also easier to do math post flop with big blinds instead of $ amounts. This is something I also somewhat need to work on.

Im still guilty of doing this at 10NL. Definitely should look at it as BB, yes.

Going in the right direction

I feel you are doing the right thing. The more you analyze your game the better you'll get. To implement the fixes to the leaks you find you need to be disciplined or you'll make the same mistakes again out of habit and then realize it again. So good luck with your training.

You can only learn the game playing at micro's to an extent because of the level of players. The higher you move up the stakes the plays will get tougher and you'll be surprised  to see a lot of advanced plays. For example there will be a lot of trapping, check raising on later streets, 3betting, 4betting preflop and henceforth, range merging. So the simple strategies you implement here will not be enough but if you keep analyzing and improving your game i am sure you will get better. Good Luck.
