best NL book?

I did look at the book reviews on this site but theres only 4 listed. I consider myself an average player and I want to be great . I also want to limit the number of poker books I buy , its not about the money but the time. I heard about Super system, Slanky's Advanced poker, Theory of poker and a few others. I want to focus mainly on NL poker. So what do you guys say is the best book or books?

Harrington on Hold em 1 - Dan Harrington
Harrington on Hold em 2 - Dan Harrington
Hold em poker for Advanced Players - David Sklansky

Hold 'em Poker for Advanced Players is chiefly for limit hold 'em, so be aware of that.

I can recommend Ed Miller's "Getting Started in Hold 'em" as well. It's a complete beginners' book, but there are some seriously good lessons in it. It's cheap, it's short and it's highly worthy of reading.

Having said that, 2+2 Publishing has a highly anticipated NLHE book coming out shortly (end of May, I believe) written by Ed Miller and David Sklansky. You may consider holding off until it hits the shelf.

Of course, you should get Theory of Poker as well. Not Hold 'em specific, but definitely required reading.

Edit: I didn't mention Harrington's books because t1riel had those covered already. But volume 1 is definitely a good read for no limit hold 'em. Volume 2 is more specific to tournaments (but a good read nonetheless).

thanks . I was thinking about getting Advanced Poker but now that u mention is mostly for limit hold'em , I will pass on it. I think for right now I am going to get Theory of poker cuz everybody seems to agree on that one. I was not sure about Harrington's books cuz I mostly play ring games but you tell me the first one is a good one. If I like the 1st , I may try the 2nd cuz I lately I started playing more tournaments. I also was thinking about NL Texas Hold'em by Tom Mcvoy , on the cover it has a stack of money. Anyone know about that one? Thanks again.

i know its kind of a standard cliche, but supersystem is definitely worth a read. i am reading it now and it is very good. there are multiple sections on different games, and you have to keep in mind that it was written like 17 years ago, but the no limit hold em piece is great.

Thanks for all of the input on books to read. I have heard a lot of good things about super system by Doyle Brunson. Is this the best book for someone that has not read any poker books at all? Or is this a more advanced players book. I have played online poker for a while but have never played live at a casino. I like to play MTT and sit n go's. I usually do not play at no limit cash tables. If anyone has any book advice for me I would appreciate it!!

Supersystem and SS2 are definitely not for beginners...Brunson basically lays out his style, and explains how his style is best for 'winning big'.
It's a great style, but is also one that works only with expert players who have expert reading abilities.
I've never read Harrington's books - but i hear their the best for beginners to set a strong foundation for your poker knowledge and strategy.

ok so whats the better book , theory of poker or supersystem 1 or 2? Whats the difference? Oh and whats up with that new NL book that F Paulsson mentioned?
