Ok so I have been thinking, wondering, and asking my self, what can you do in tough situations when your playing online.

For me there are alot of factors I consider when I say "being under the gun".

-You need to call or fold to at least a 6 BB raise.
-You have a good flop, with at least a pair, 50-60% runner up for win.:D
-There has already been a raised, passed you, of at least 3 BB, and it got re raised by another player, before you, so the initial better hasnt yet called or made a move on the reraise.
-One of the betters is a loose cannon.
-There is still at least 2 or 3 other players who can call the hand.
-Your stack is getting relativly low in the tournament and you need to make a move soon if you don't want to get eaten by the blinds.:(

I think we can all agree that this is a tough spot to be in, and it is the spots I seem to get in quite often, thus I am not sure I do the right thing, in fact, I don't really know whats the logical choice.

Calling is risky, because the initial better is a loose cannon, if his stack is low, he might go all-in, and you might not want to do the same.

Folding is fine, but you already commited pre-uflop and your getting low, plus you have good odds of winning.

Raising is useless because the loose cannon will call you what ever you do.

What in the world do I do?

Well, that majorly depends on the hand you are holding, no? :)

In tournaments when it's getting tough, that's not so true, because sooner or later you just have to move in and hope for the best.

But it ring games, if you are utg you have to play extra carefully. play great hands like AA KK or QQ agressively, fold any hands that don't have real value like suited connectors.

Think about calling raises with AK or AQ, just don't do that too often. They are not so good hands in utg position.

Hardest is to play pocket pairs that are small. If the raise is not that big, you should call and if it's big you should fold. In normal situations without raise you just call and see what the rest of the table will do... Decide from that.

I am writing an article on starting poker hands, published two parts now in my blog 100kpoker » Introduction

Next part will be about card hand values according to position you are in. You can visit and read if you like.

Hope this answered your question :)

I really don't understand your post...do you have a HH or something? It would make it much easier to read what's going on..right now I just see a lot of words and possible ideas.

not sure what you are asking but here's my response-to me atleast in my opinion if you are short stacked and under the gun it's better to fold hands like A-RAG and wait till you are in position and push any 2 cards-you will have more fold equity and pick up the valuable blinds unless your are ridiculously short and the sb or bb have no choice but to call you-all in all wait till you have better position-the_urge27

I fail to understand this post!

Let me try and be of some help :

For all the points except one you HAVE to fold ! Do you actually call ??

The one which you should'nt is the one where your opponent is a loose-cannon

Since ur UTG you can slow-play him , and possibly get a good pot.

This also depends whether he's made a raise , what your stack is like etc etc.

But try and slow-play when your UTG and your up against 2-3 players.

When your UTG you can also try and make a bluff bet , just to test the table. The bet should be anything from low-mid depending on your stack.

Anyway ,
Gl at the tables!
You need it.

Under the gun isn't a phrase that means whatever you want it to mean. It means first to act pre-flop at a 4+ player table.

ok so, being under the gun is being the first to act, wich makes total sense, and with humility I did not know.

but can't you picture the situation im describing, maybe give me hints to describe a situation better? Thanks ;)
