I was playing 1/3 at the casino and I live a state away and im young (22) so I havent played a ton of live poker.... Well im middle position with QQ tables loose as always.. was raised to me 12 i pop to 40... Well button reraises me (hes a regular old guy always see him there with tons of chips) to 120.. Original raiser folds... Well It gets to me and my stack is only 250.. So a 120 wouldnt be a great call I figured so i thought i needed either an all in or a fold... I checked my cards again... and pushed them.... Well he his quizzing me... Im not answering doing the dwan (mouth open and shuffling chips) he says i saw you check your cards so i know you got QQ or KK not AA.... And he calls.. Flop gave me set and i took it down.. He called me with AJ hoping A comes.... Damn right? Easy money...

Went in with 300 left with 1034... What what

Well he got almost 3:1 for calling, so it was correct to call I believe. It would be incorrect if you had AA, AK, or AQ though.

700$ , not a bad score :)

Meh, 28% equity vs. QQ is not really stellar. But hey, anyone who cold 4bets AJo doesn't care about these silly percentages unless my impression about looseness of live poker is way off.

Maybe he reads people well but still AJo is meh.

I think he over played his AJo there but it worked in your favour,,,but that's what you need.

i think there is no much differece between AJ or A3 because with both one can make a straight, and when one is reraised and holding AJ then one expects to get the ace in the board and hope the opponent doesn´t hold aces or ace high, but the equity is well below a third so is way too loose to play that way Aj, i think is worse than gambling

What was the "beginner mistake?"

I double checked my cards before shoving...
He noticed and said so you dont have aces since i saw you double check your cards..
Then called hoping to hit the A, didnt and I stacked up

I wouldn't call it a mistake unless it got to a suited flop and you checked to see if you had a suit. Otherwise, it might actually be considered a mistake to check your hole cards if you DID have AA.

It would be a gross spot against a really good player but I think ultimately I would have reached the same conclusion as you - shoving. QQ is just too strong to let go, especially in a live setting, because opponents are doing dumb stuff like this enough that its very much +ev. However, what is more likely here against someone at least somewhat competent is QQ vs AK which is a good spot but it's not exactly a thrilling spot. you still only have 56/43/1 advantage (broadway chop possibilities obviously)
