Just wanted some feedback. Just moved back from Lv to my hometown (Boston) and started playing some local cash games. I play a pretty solid game and raked frequently the first few months. Guess that pissed some people off bc when I raise in position now, half if not more of the table calls. Normally this makes me smile but I've seen some bad bad bad beats lately (aa's on straddle in a 1/2 nl raise under the gun to double the straddle of 20 4 callers, re raise to 100, 3 callers. Flop a set, 10-9 wins ones card straight. Or I 3-bet with kks utg, flop is 249, 24 wins with two pair) bc of it. After a month of this I made a change. so now I'm limping on everything but aa and kk, with few exceptions. now I've gotten a rep as a fish when previously I would have raised on 75 percent of the hands I'm calling with. In still winning (but the wins aren't as big) but I don't like this derogatory nickname. I hve always been a post flop player and I'm more comfortable this way anyway but I need to plug this hole in my game. A little additional information: before I started limping, I cbet around 60 percent, I can/have layed down big pocket pairs and I am considered a semi aggressive player. To me this doesn't matter but I'm often told that it's different bc I'm a girl so thought I would throw this on the end. Any suggestions
(Note: Emphasis mine)
I would give
SERIOUS consideration to finding somewhere else to play. This is a strange result. I have "burnt out" venues before, after I get a "reputation", and all the regs clear out as soon as my name goes up on the wait board, and they decide that the
slots, Craps,
roulette, or
blackjack tables will give them a better deal than playing with me.
It wouldn't surprise me if these regs who've gotten so sticky so suddenly have a pact among themselves to gang up on you. The more callers, the less likely your non-nutted hands hold up. They split up the rewards, and they punish you for screwing up "their" game. They call you names you don't like, they drive you off with frustration over the increased bad beats, or they break you.
That they've already got you playing their game
tells me they've almost succeeded. Doesn't matter how good you are, there's no way you can beat this sort of collusion, and there's nothing you can do about it as there's no evidence, and no need for them to do anything the least bit suspicious at the tables. You can't penalize another player for always calling if they're not doing something like signaling, or marking cards, or card switching. The "eye in the sky" would pick up on that, but not an agreement made outside that they're gonna teach this interloper a lesson by always calling. What happens off the venue is something the cardroom manager can't control.
