Was wondering if I am BB and all limpers come in. What would be the hands i would want to raise with. If I have a raiser and a caller should I call or re-raise and with which hands for each?

I am sure stack size comes into play as well but let's say it's early in a MTT and everyone is pretty even. Or should this not facor for this question?

Hope this makes sense.

BB action

I can only say one thing to your question; no, make that two things..........

Betters win, folders save, callers lose

Play tight early in MTT's, when chips are worth more

Call/check with your implied odds hands, raise with your hands that are likely to make TPGK/Be ahead when they wiff flop. Pretty simple. You have KQos in the BB, and there are 3 limpers. If you're gonna put money in the pot when you make top pair 2nd kicker, you better raise it preflop.

Id say big pair.. AA-1010 do a big raise.. you wanna fish out the hands Ax suited connectors and such. AK or AQ sometimes aswell... The point is to get rid of weak hands that will have position on you after the flop.

example of this that didnt work for me at a live table! (1-2 NL)
im in BB and have $100...
5 limpers and it comes around to me with QQ... i bump it up to $25.
only 1 person folds!!!!! god i was pissed.. anyways. flop comes Q 10 8.. SB bets $20 and then i go all in for $75 total... everyone else folds.. SB looks at me.. "WHY YOU MAKE EVERYONE FOLD??? I HAVE THE NUTS!!!!" and he turns over J9. and takes me down. i had a couple choice words for him and had to get escorted out but... uggghhh... raise big to get fishes like that out!! lol. im just venting :p but i think you get what im sayin :p

BB Raise/re-raise

There's a really good chart by Phil Gorden at Full Tilt that answers yer question pretty well, I think--you just have to navigate around FT a little and you should be able to find it and print it out! GL!;)

This doesn't make any sense. The point is not to get rid of them. The point is to have them pay you while you are ahead. Additionally, they know they need to hit a big hand to win, however, you will have a hard time folding aces. Limiting the number of players in the pot will reduce the likelyhood that they hit a big hand. On top of all that, putting more money in the pot before the flop will make up for the times that your opponent makes a big hand and stacks you.

If you think the purpose of raising is to make weak hands fold, you obviously don't know how we make money in poker.

with 4 limpers coming in...
Kinda generally,

I like to raise strongly with big pairs.. AA -1010.. maybe 4 to 5 BBs
Raise with any with any AK,AQ, 99 3 to 4 BBs
Check the rest.

Of course stack size, tourney situation and player reads will come into play. But, I think that's how I play em generally.

I would say TT+, and I would put a pot size raise in. This IS to weed the field of junk..but hopefully not everyone, PP's do not play well in big multi-way pots. You are doing this because A)you are getting some value out of the hand, and B) you will be playing out of position the rest of the hand. Make them pay for their positional advantage.

I believe there are times when you raise to weed out the competition and times you raise to build a big pot. The odds favor the big pair pre flop but always remember that connectors have more outs than you and though some people call it sucking out because god forbid I should lose with QQ. You have two outs QQ. AK suited has six outs that beat your queens as well as straight and flush draws. It never ceases to amaze me when people get so upset about losing with AA, KK. QQ. If those hands pre-flop are 65 to 70% winners then they are also 30% losers and some of that 30% will be 5,2 suited. Poker is a gambling game, this means people will gamble for that 30% chance of winning. Some of them would go in even if they seen your AA. You cannot take luck and gambling out of it. You can study, and think you and only you know how to play the game, but people will still gamble and win. Get your money in when the odds are in your favor and over time you will be rewarded. And remember a gamblers creed: "There is no such thing as a sure thing." Ask someone who bet $5,000 on Big Brown if they agree.

I think if your ahead (or think you are) you should raise to make the others pay for their draw. You don't have 100% odds even with AA so you won't win all the time but you want to get paid off when you do. If everyone folds so be it. Nothing wrong with winning even if its not as much as you would like. As soon as you see the flop you may not be ahead anymore.
